SBus ether card, ss5

I have a sparc 5 and an sbus le card (Sun part #501-1881, the coax+AUI card)
and for some strange reason the two are not friends. When the card is in a
free slot in the ss5 it detects okay (both in the PROM sbus-probe-all and in
OpenBSD, at least enough to get me an le2 device) but will not configure.
Whenever I try to ifconfig le2 and give it an IP it says "le2: failed to
initialize" and refuses to respond. It will not send nor recieve packets.

I'm reasonably sure this isn't a hardware problem. The card works fine in
my IPC and both slots in the ss5 I tried the card in work with other boards.
The ss5 also has a be card (10/100baseT) and a FSBE (combo 10baseT + fast SCSI
card) in addition to the onboard le (10baseT) interface (hence this card's
device name, le2). I'm using a kernel compiled locally from CVS sources from
Oct. 2nd (yes, I know I should really update first, but I don't think any
relevant files have changed). And yes, I do have "le* at sbus? slot ?
offset ?" in my kernel config file.

It's probably something stupid I'm doing, or that I'm not, but on the off
chance it is a bug I thought I'd see if someone out there could reproduce it.
Assuming it's not a bug, any idea what I'm doing wrong? dmesg/bootup/PROM
messages can be sent as needed, just tell me where to email 'em.
