Mysterious isaattach problems
Here is what I have found so far on my quest to solve my installation
problems:
1. The line before the kernel panic reads:
cd0(pciide0:1:0): using PIO mode 0, DMA mode 1 (using DMA data transfers)
Then the kernel panics with:
isa0 at mainbus0
panic: isaattach: can't map DMA controller #1
So I thought to myself, this probably has something to do with my CD-ROM
drive. So I crack open the machine, and look at the drive. The jumper
setting is set at CS (I have no idea what this setting is). So I set the
jumper to slave (thinking, perhaps, that there is a master somewhere) and
the only difference is that now the message says cd0(pciide0:1:1) instead.
So I opened it back up, and changed the settings to master. Now here is the
weird part. When I boot the machine, I get the "boot>" prompt, then the
program continues and loads the kernel, then it prints "entry point
0x100020" and reboots. It is now in a reboot loop as we speak. What did I
do?
TIA,
ahp
