Re: *Now* is the time to test snapshots.
I just downloaded the Oct 16 i386 snapshot
to one of my OpenBSD machines and did an (I)nstall on my
other OpenBSD machine with the floppy26.fs from the
snapshot.
As soon as I typed the "I" for install I got the message:
/install: //install.sub [2184]: syntax error: ';;' unexpected
and when I proceeded it got to the point where it normally
initializes the network and displayed the message
/install[318]: donetconfig: not found
and skipped network configuration, making my planned ftp
installation from the 1st OpenBSD machine with the snapshot
a bit problematic.
When I dredged up enough ed info (note to self: perfect tardis
compression and get vi on boot floppy) from the dark recesses
of my mind I found that both errors were caused by a stray ';;'
at line 2184, just after an 'esac' in install.sub. I
deleted this line, saved the modified file, typed 'install'
at the shell prompt and the installation went flawlessly from that
point.
I had a quick lookaround my source tree (/usr/src/distrib) and
tried to find an install.sh with the problem to generate a patch,
but I couldn't.
One last nit I did notice was that when I was prompted to
re-use my ftp info to install libssl26, there was no default
(eg [y]) given.
Total elapsed time for complete install, including source, ports
and X11 trees, and installing qmail, emacs, vi, fetchmail, mutt,
communicator, customized kernel, wmx, xv, xfstt (w 80 TrueType
fonts), samba and all personal customizations: 2.5 hours. I am
getting better at this!
