was this snapshot before or after they turned off xkb by default?  it is 
still on.  otherwise, xdm and startx bring up X fine.

yesterday's base snapshot works ok as long as one remembers to do a 
MAKEDEV std.  otherwise, kvm_mkdb will bitch about not being able  to 
open /dev/ksyms.  the installer's build devices thing does not create it.
