Well, concerning MacOS X, I don't think they have upgradability (and surely not
remote) right in mind. For what I know, even going from DP1 to DP2 doesn't keep
full binary compatibility (i.e. DP1 tools won't work in spite of missing DP2
ones, but that is maybe intended) .



OTOH, you had bad luck with your experiment, but you can't blame anybody :-(
Things are getting better, but it takes time (a lot), and there are priorities
and not too much manpower.

I'm not sure that the other BSD's are much easier at remote upgrades, nor do I
think Linux is.
