The mouse is moving erratically. What's wrong?

Greetings,

I just installed XFree86 X3.12G and all works well except for
the mouse.  I have tried the PS/2, Microsoft and Logitech protocols
with different, but unsuccessful results.

The system is a DELL P120 with a PS/2 mouse plug and a Microsoft
mouse.  Which the kernel picks up as a PS/2 mouse on int 12.

Any ideas?
