im running version 2.5, i didnt see a startx, but xdm tries to run on 
startup... its says starting xdm... then it asks for a regular shell login. i 
check the xdm-error file and it says :
xdm error (pid 11177): server unexpectedly died
xdm error (pid 11177): Server for display: 0 can't be started session disabled
