I don't know much for documentation but here's a few good sites.

that's cnet's hardware reviews.  They let people post ratings.  Also has a
spot for searching for the lowest price.  I've rarely found better prices
than there, but they obviously don't have every drive available listed.
The plexwriter 12/10/32 was very highly rated there so that's why I asked
here about it before.

ratings of the vendors.
