that was the idea.

In the end I 'solved' the problem by 'disable pciide' in UKC and writing
out a new kernal. 

This has stopped the errors, but I appear to be using 16bit disk IO.

This is fine for the moment as it serves my short term needs (learning
obsd) but seems to be a bit of a long term prob.  I am unable to determine
at this stage where the prob is, if it is in the driver, the config, the
bios or the drive (or some combination of the above).
