Hi,
I tried to install 3.1 (from cvs) on a dell the other day, but it failed.
dhclient couldn't configure the network card.
According to dell it's a CNet PRO200WL and the kernel says
dc0 "Davicom Technologies DM9102".
I rebooted and while dhclient sent out its requests, I ran tcpdump on
another computer:
16:58:51.919571 ff:0:6:c:ff:0 6:c:ff:0:6:c 060c 342:
ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c
ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c
ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c
ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c
ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c ff00 060c
ff00
(A while later) I manually ifconfiged dc0 and tried to ping my router.
Here's how that came out:
22:45:38.951957 1:1:1:1:1:1 sap 00 > 1:1:1:1:1:1 sap 01 rr (r=0,R) len=42
0000: 0101 0101 0101 0101 0101 0101 0101 0101 ................
0010: 0101 0101 0101 0101 0101 0101 0000 0000 ................
0020: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ..............
Needless to say, all pings failed.
Any suggestions (apart from getting another NIC :)?
