Hey guys / gals, I am needing to set up a fileserver for about 3 of us
to share for storing stuff like mp3's, .iso's and other large downloads
and was wondering which method of transferring files would be
better....NFS or using FTP via a server on the fileserver and clients on
the workstations? I have never setup a NFS server before so i am just
curious about the advantages or disadvantages vrs. a FTP transfer
methode...is NFS faster, secure etc? I actually need to also give
another user "windows xp user" his own drive, so if NFS was used, i
guess Samba would work for the windows user.....correct? Before i get
excited and install Samba, is it very resource intensive; I dont want to
swamp the other users?
The Hardware set aside is:
500mhz amd k6-2, 256 meg pc-100 ram, 80gig ide ata/133 drive W/promise
pci ata/133 controller
OS: OpenBSD 3.2 Generic
As always, Thanks for suggestions and the guidance in advance. I am
greatly appreciative.
Have a Great Day.
