X responsiveness under high load

Why does X, specially the mouse, become extremely
sluggish under high load on OpenBSD? For example,
trying this on FreeBSD and Linux doesn't seem to
affect mouse movement:
$ cat /dev/urandom > /dev/null
But on OpenBSD, I can barely move the mouse. I have
tried renicing X which doesn't help. Does anybody have
any suggestions for improving responsiveness?
