If I understand correclty, the problem is that there isn't a spare
volume to use for the transfer.
If a) linux has a utility that lets you defrag & shrink a reiserfs
partition, and b) you can get your machine to create ffs partitions,
and c) you're comforatble with scripting,
then write a script that shrinks all the free space out from the
resierfs partition, creates a new ffs partition in the free space,
copies files reiserfs->ffs, repeats. You'll have turned your big
reiserfs partitions into a lot of little ffs ones- which you can the
make look like a single big partition with ccdconfig if you want to.
ugly! I suppose I'd be scouring the web to find a way to make reiserfs
work with openbsd... or just rescuing some P90-with-fdiv-bug to act as
a linux fileserver... or buying an external 300 GBhard drive from some
chainstore I don't like, using it for the transfer, then bringing it
back under their 90-days no-questions return policy... but I find I
can borrow the parts I need if I ask around, see if a friend/coworker
can loan you some storage?
