Sorry for the new thread but I lost my old e-mail on this thread.
As a recap I have a Kingston Memory stick which is seen but no device created for it.
The relevant dmesg part is as follows:
umass0 at uhub1 port 1 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: Kingston DataTraveler2.0, rev 2.00/2.00, addr 2
umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
scsibus1 at umass0: 2 targets
I get this from usbdevs:
bash-3.00# /usr/sbin/usbdevs
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
addr 2: DataTraveler2.0, Kingston
addr 1: UHCI root hub, Intel
I have also recompiled my kernel wit the following options as per a suggestion.
option SCSIDEBUG
option SCSIDEBUG_LEVEL=0x00F0
I tried the defaults at first but decided to bump it up to report everything but dmesg doesn't change so it appears that the SCSI area doesn't think it is missing anything.
I get this when I plug in my Wife's stick, which is a Belkin:
umass0 at uhub1 port 1 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: vendor 0x0d7d USB Disk, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 2
umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
scsibus1 at umass0: 2 targets
scsi_inqmatch: 2/0/1 <, , >
sd0 at scsibus1 targ 1 lun 0: <, USB DISK, 2.09> SCSI0 0/direct removable
sd0: 62MB, 62 cyl, 64 head, 32 sec, 512 bytes/sec, 128000 sec total
So it does appears that the debug messages are being printed just nothing for the first device.
Is there anywhere I can check for USB ID's and a place to compare where the kernel is comparing it to?
Also is there any reading I can do to understand kernel and drivers a bit better. I've picked up Design and Implementation of FreeBSD 5.2 cause they do not seem to sell the D&I of 4.4BSD anymore around here.
Kevin
