Thanks.  

I had overlooked mdoc.samples(7), and it proved
invaluable this evening.  I now at least know the
basics and have a rough draft of a man page for my
app.  And I feel comfortable enough with nroff to
submit man page diffs and know the man pages to go to
for help.
