most any modern un*x mta (postfix, qmail, exim, even sendmail) can do the
volume if configured correctly. there's not much to be gained by MTA
shopping here.
disk i/o is the usual limiting factor, raid 0 over raid 1 with good SCSI
controllers would make a lot of sense. cpu count and cpu speed aren't
critical factors. make sure you have a caching dns server on the box,
or on a box which is on the same network segment. slow dns lookups
can kill you in one of these setups.
