NFS strangeness

Something here doesn't quite look right...

This is the output of "df -h" on an OpenBSD NFS client:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/wd0a 9.8G 509M 8.9G 5% /
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/input 611G 461G 151G 75% /input
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/output0 374G 1.6T 736G 451% /output0
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/output1 1.3T 144G -872G 11% /output1
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/output2 1.5T 356M -546G 0% /output2

The client in question is:

OpenBSD hostname.gsfc.nasa.gov 3.7 GENERIC.MP#296 amd64

The server is an IRIX machine. The filesystems on the IRIX box are
cxfs, and look like such on the df -h:

Filesystem Type Size use avail %use Mounted on
/dev/cxvm/hds_input xfs 611G 461G 150G 76% /input
/dev/cxvm/hds_output xfs 6.4T 5.7T 700G 90% /output0
/dev/cxvm/output1 xfs 7.3T 144G 7.1T 2% /output1
/dev/cxvm/output2 xfs 5.5T 356M 5.5T 1% /output2

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the size of the
filesystems. I can't seem to find anything related on a search of -misc
or Google.

When I try to write a significant amount of data to the filesystem, the
copy hangs, and top shows the cp in STATE "idle".

I am running 9000-byte MTUs on the network, but that appears to be
working correctly.

I'd appreciate any help, in particular anyone who cares to tell me how
stupid I'm being and a trivial solution to fix this. :)

dmesg says:
