Hi. I am planning for an install on my laptop, and I want to encrypt
the /tmp, /home, and possibly the /var partitions. I realize that
partitions can be set up and configured using vnconfig(8), however I
would like to set up my system to configure and mount those partitions
at boot.
Right now, my plan is to add a bit of code to /etc/rc to ask for the
seeds, attempt to mount the filesystems, and keeping inquiring about
the seeds if that fails (unless the system is booted in single-user
mode).
My eventual plan is to create a small root system on a USB thumb
drive, mount all of the partitions as encrypted loop-back files, and
then transfer control over to the mounted root partition, but for now,
I am more worried about how to set up the mounting of encrypted
loop-back filesystems on boot-up.
Anyway, so I was wondering if anyone had attempted something similar
to this, had any tips, example scripts, etc. Thanks in advance -- I
greatly appreciate it.
RJ
