mplayer and /dev/mixer

hi there,

is anybody having problems in mplayer with sound?

the sound is playing fine, the problem is that i can't
change the volume and/or mute.

amaaq> pkg_info | grep mplayer
mplayer-1.0pre5     Movie player supporting MPEG, DivX, AVI, ASF, MOV & more

the mixer works fine with any other app.

i tried to run mplayer as root, thinking maybe no permissions to the mixer
device...  but the result is the same.

amaaq> ls -lAF /dev/mi*
lrwx------  1 root  wheel         6 Nov 27 15:44 /dev/mixer@ -> mixer0
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   42,  16 Nov 29 21:46 /dev/mixer0

amaaq> grep mixer ~/.mplayer/mplayer.conf
mixer           = /dev/mixer

this is a -current machine.  anybody has an idea?
