bash3: ~40 columns wide only ?

Hello,

I feel a bit stupid... after upgrading a box to 3.6 and installing the
bash3 port from the CD, I got a command line that's only some 40
characters wide. Screen output from programs, eg man, or using vi, does
not present this limit, it's _only_ the command line where I need to
type on.

If anyone can beat me with a cluestick, you're invited.
