Marc,
when you say newer, do you mean
a) newer than GNU Ghostscript 7.05 we use as the default
dependency?
If this is the case, I had the same issue.
ps2pdf in GNU Ghostscript 7.05 produces broken ligatures for
fi, ffi, etc, when applied to a PostScript file made by
groff. AFPL Ghostscript 8.14 has ps2pdf that makes perfect
PDF from the same PostScript files. Hence, I have
uninstalled all my packages that depended on Ghostscript,
installed AFPL Ghostscript 8.14, and then installed my other
packages again. They resolved to ghostscript-8.14 just fine.
Everything works perfectly well: groff, TeX, printing.
Please notice that the port had a typo in the makefile, so
the package on the FTP site didn't have support for X11
device. I've fixed the typo, and compiled from ports.
My fix has been applied to the ports tree (both current and
stable), but I didn't check if the package has been rebuilt
on the FTP site.
b) newer than AFPL Ghostscript 8.14 we have in ports/packages on
FTP?
I see on Ghostscript web site that there is a GNU Ghostscript
8.15 (that would solve my problems),
and AFPL Ghostscript 8.50 available.
Well, then, I guess somebody could include everything that's
needed from the port for AFPL Ghostscript 8.14 into GNU Ghostscript
port to get 8.15 working (probably easy).
Next step would be to attempt AFPL Ghostscript 8.50 starting
with 8.14 port (I have no idea how significant changes could
be there).
Regards,
