Snapshots and 2.6 release

I'm a little bit confused on the snapshots section for the 2.6 release.
What i mean is that i've installed the 2.6 official release, but i see
that the snapshots section is newer then the offcial release. Must i update
to the last snapshot?
Does the snapshots contain the patches for the 2.6 release already
compiled as binary?
