I tried the update, I failed.  The box is running, but SSh isn't working.  
As suggested, I had enabled telnet before rebooting, with the intent of 
using an "in the clear" password, just in case.  The telnet prompts come 
up, but it won't let me log into root.  Must be some other flag I missed.

Cheaper for me to buy another machine, configure it, and ship it down 
there than to update it.  OpenBSD is definitely not ready for 
operational prime time.  This was way too much work!
