Hey all.
We have an OpenBSD box as our gateway to the net. Everything is fine and
fast. One problem though. The ftpd daemon is SUPER slow. Its not the
whole network either. Just the one on fish. Heres an example (fish is
OpenBSD, fods is solaris, oldgw is linux).
This is an ftp connection from fods to the old linux box:
ftp> put thttpd-2.04.tar
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for thttpd-2.04.tar.
##########################
226 Transfer complete.
local: thttpd-2.04.tar remote: thttpd-2.04.tar
421925 bytes sent in 0.21 seconds (1987.73 Kbytes/s)
This is a transfer from fods to fish:
ftp> put thttpd-2.04.tar
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for 'thttpd-2.04.tar'.
226 Transfer complete.
local: thttpd-2.04.tar remote: thttpd-2.04.tar
421925 bytes sent in 31 seconds (13.31 Kbytes/s)
ASCII, I know solaris did it by default, so i did the same to the openbsd
box.
1987Kb/s versus 13Kb/s. Yeah, i would say something is wrong :)
I would send a dmesg and the rest, but since everything is working great
(and fast), I don't they they would help. What could be causing this? Any
ideas? None of the ipnat or ipf rules affect the localnet, so i doubt its
that. FYI: ftpd is started through inetd not rc.
Thanks again everyone.
Luke
