I saw it work, then I wrote the changes to /etc/hostname.wi0 and then
it stopped working. :(

This is *exactly* what is in the file:
up nwid wlan media autoselect mediaopt hostap
!wicontrol \$if -e 1 -k 0xcc88f3e793e14704bc69121443 -v 1 -f 6

and in XP on my laptop I have the 128bit key set to hex, and
cc88f3e793e14704bc69121443.
