From PackageThf@aol.comSun Jul 14 13:38:57 1996 Date: Tue, 2 Apr 1996 14:55:40 -0500 From: PackageThf@aol.com Subject: It was a robin's egg and it was blue. I have to apologize for the lateness of this issue. At first the info. was a little slow in coming and then I ran into finals and Spring Break. I'll try to be a little more punctual in the future. NOW, on to the Chunk: THIS IS BIG NEWS, EVERYBODY!!! I will be getting to do an interview with Jon Wurster in (exactly) two weeks! I've talked to him on the phone (he's super-nice, BTW) and he's willing to let me ask him numerous questions. So, feel free to send me questions you would like to ask the him and, if all goes well, i'll be able to ask them for you. Please submit all Q's to me (intelligent ones, preferably) by April 12. And look for a transcript in the next mailer! +since I can't answer this one, I'm sending it on to you; from tharpel@intp.intp.com: Do you know anything about the "3D" photo that is attached to the "Driveway" seven inch? Just curious. I took the same kind of photos with a special 3D camera and I had to send away to get the pics developed and it was expensive. Anyway, just thought someone might be interested. Thanks. +from msk136@psu.edu: As far as the secret 7" (the "Foolish" 7" in the first pressings of the Foolish LP) i got the same thing same drawings same shit. i don't think superchunk rounded up a bunch of little kids and paid them candy to write on one side of their record. this is an amusing thought, though. you asked about what equipment they use? it kinda goes like this: mac uses live most of the time: gibson maroder(spelling) probably from the mid 70's. it wasn't a great guitar so they stop making them in the 70's (i'm pretty sure) a Boss distortion pedal ( the orange one). a mesa mark III amp and i think a marshall 4x10 cabinet. jim uses: a gibson les paul studio and a fender bassman amp (i am pretty sure). and i swear he must have a closet full of orange polvo shirts! laura uses: a fender percision bass and ampeg bass amp stuff and jon uses: a 4 piece ludwig drum kit and wears pants that aren't long enough for him. one last note, in your next newsletter if you want, you can give my email address to anyone who would like good guitar or bass transcriptions to any superchunk song they want. my address is msk136@email.psu.edu +from grm9621@is.NYU.EDU: In case you hadn't heard Mac makes an appearance in the video for the Archers of Loaf's "Underachievers Fight and March Song". As the first verse begins he is shown holding a guitar and singing, as if he is the one singing the song. After a second or two he blows up, with debris flying everywhere. It's kind of cool looking. (ThiefNote: thanks to pavalos@mer.cioe.com for info on this as well) +more on Superchunk's equipment from Jerchunk@aol.com: jon- dunno mac- amp: mesa boogie head plus 4 10" cabinets. guitar: gibson marander jim- amp: fender bassman. guitar: gibson les paul studio laura- amp:acoustic head . guitar: fender precision. pedal: hot cake( costum made in new zealand)... this is all jon told me about lauras stuff. +a more specific instrument Q from foley@capecod.net: What type of guitar fx did Mac use on Foolish and Heres where the strings...Or if you can tell me what Fx they're using now.Mainly distortion pedals.Thanx. +here's one from JARERO@PANAM1.PANAM.EDU: Also does anyone know what "Your Own Cloud" (off Slow Note From a Sinking Ship) sounds like? I was contemplating buying the vinal version just for that song but $8 sounds like a lot.....Superchunk's going to have a song on The Lounge Ax Defense and Relocation CD. It is going to be put out by Touch and Go Records on 4/30/96. Here's the excerpt from the Ajax catalog: "A benifit to assist one of Chicago's best rock clubs in their legal battles against on anal-retentive neighbor, the Chicago Liquor Commission and the Zoning Department. All the tracks on this CD are otherwise unreleased and were specifically recorded for this benefit. Included are SUPERCHUNK, Sebadoh, Guided by Voices, Archers of Loaf, Yo La Tengo with the Coctails, Jesus Lizard, Shellac, June of 44, Coctails, Bad Livers, Mekons, Seam, Tortise and the Rachel's." Ajax lists it's price as $13.50 but I'm sure people can find it cheaper. Ajax's e-mail address is: ajax@ripco.com if you need more info. +ALSO, for those of you who didn't get the clarification notice or weren't part of the list yet, the address for you to write to about the Superchunk rarities tape is: mrozek@msn.com - this is the correct address, no question, so write to him. (For complete tape information, check out last month's mailer at "Here With Superchunk") One reason why this letter is a little more scattered than normal: I have been devoting almost all of my spare time to my web site. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, I now have my own website, devoted to both myself and the Superchunk Internationale (e)Mailing List. So far, we have a cool links page (as all web pages seem to do), a FAQ for the mailing list, and a (semi-completed) look at all of the CD's and cassette's that I own, including cool band pictures and links to sites for those bands. And, let me tell you, it's massive - a real shrine to music at large. Coming soon: a biography, with odd artwork, and drama, in some form or another. Don't worry - this is not trying to be competition for "Here With Superchunk" - my page isn't like that, as it's more focused on me than Superchunk, but it does have some mailing list stuff on it. It's not quite ready yet, but soon - you'll get the address (URL) in the next mailer. Until next time, Superchunkers and Superchunkettes....
