Date: Fri, 4 Oct 1996 02:16:49 -0400 From: PackageThf@aol.com Subject: certain stars (the Superchunk Internationale (e)Mailing List) Hello there, chunk fans! Sorry for the break, but I took a little vacation and then moved. but I'm back and here's the latest: The tour dates for the US "Scouring The South" tour are up and they are (including the phone numbers for the clubs involved): ~October 25 - Charleston, SC - The Music Farm - (803) 722-8904 with Olivia Tremor Contol and Jeff Mangum (of Neutral Milk Hotel) ~October 26 - Gainesville, FL - Florida Theatre - (904) 375-7361 **this show is sponsored by the University of Florida, but the show is NOT EXPECTED to be restricted to UofF students. with Gaunt and Soul Coughing (!) ~October 27 - Orlando, FL - Saphire Supper Club - (407) 246-1419 with Gaunt (Gaunt opens for all of the following shows as well) ~October 28 - Tampa, FL - The Rubb - (813) 975-1072 ~October 29 - Jacksonville Beach, FL - Einstein-A-Go-Go - (904) 246-4073 or (904) 247-7657 ~October 30 - Talahasee, FL - The Cow Haus - (904) 425-2697 ~October 31 (Jon's b-day) - Athens, GA - 40 Watt Club - (706) 549-7871 ~November 1 - National, TN - Exit Inn - (615) 321-4400 ~November 2 - Knoxville, TN - Flamingo's - (615) 546-0404 The october 29th show is the only confirmed all ages show, although others might be as well - please call the clubs for specification. Also, if you noticed, this tour is a straight 9 days - the most consecutive days that the band's ever toured. the Australian dates are still tenative (it's hard to be in one country and organize shows in another), but here's the list again: Nov. 15 - Brisbane - The Roxy Nov. 16 - Canberra - The Anu Bar Nov. 17 - Sydney -The Metro (2 shows that day) Nov. 20 - Perth - The Planet Nov. 22 - Adelaide - Tivoli Nov. 23 - Melbourne - Corner Hotel (2 shows that day) Nov. 25 - Auckland, New Zealand - The Power Station Scheduled to open for Superchunk is an Australian band named the First Pencil. Incidentally, I owe an opinion. I was asked by several people if Steven Malkamus (of pavement) was opening for the band for the first (now cancelled) AU tour and I said no. Well, I was wrong. He was scheduled to open. What happened was this: Steven signed on after GbV dropped, but the tour was soon cancelled and, essentially, I didn't talk to the band during that little interim. I apologize to all the people I steered the wrong way (I made the wrong assumption). The song Superchunk recorded for the "Suburbia" soundtrack (out next month; the film premiers at the N.Y. Film Festival, which I believe is next month) is called "Does Your Hometown Care?" The soundtrack will be out on either Geffen or DGC Records and also includes new tracks from Sonic Youth, Beck, and The Flaming Lips, among others. The Superchunk EP ("the laughing guns") will be released on Oct. 22 - mail order only, but it's possible that a few copies might wind up in stores (but very few stores, if that does happen.) Ordering info should be ready in a few days, so I'll pass that on as soon as I get it. The MERGE website, although still not quite finished, is now open to the public. You can find it at: http://www.mrg2000.com/merge Already up is the Merge catalog, tour dates for Merge acts, as well as lots of other goodies. And another reason to order from merge: when you order, provided that you ask, you can get CHUNK stickers. Of course, this is only if you order and only if you ask. So order and ask, then decorate. also coming soon to a store near you: new Portastatic i- a 2-song 7" 45, both new, fairly acoustic 4-track numbers, probably out late october...the songs are "Spying on the Spys" and "Do You Want to Buy a Bridge?"... ordering and release info to follow. Well, there's a lot of stuff coming - I'll keep you posted on the new specifics as soon as I get them.....also look for the funny and largely inacurate STRINGS lyrics, as per the lyrics in the Japanese copy of the album (i promise, i will eventually write it up...) - plus a welcome to those of you who are new to the list.... dave CHUNKONTHEWEB +Merge - http://www.mrg2000.com/merge +my page - THE BIG DAVE PAGE: http://members.tripod.com/~Superchunk +the CHUNKLIST FAQ: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/2605/chunkfaq.html +the official HERE WITH SUPERCHUNK site: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mransfrd/superchunk +back issues of the mailing list: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mransfrd/superchunk/news.html
