Though I haven't been all that good on the blogging front, I've more than kept up on the news, especially the filibuster fight, and I have this to say about the state of our country:
I've never been more worried.
It is far worse than you think.
We are lurching along, by fits and starts, towards, at minimum, really ugly Christian authoritarianism in this country. The democratic means by which such inclinations are usually controlled and channelled are under great stress -- probably the most significant amount of stress since the late 1960s, or McCarthy, take your pick.
It's as clear as possibly can be.
And no, I haven't been dipping my snoot into the forbidden waters of ultra-leftist horseshit like CounterPunch. I'm really not into the unnecessary alarmism. It's so tinfoil-hat.
Almost everything you need to know is over at
Orcinus, who gets it like no other.

Read the links if you're ignorant of the underlying stories involved in his analysis.
It is your obligation.
In the meantime, I'll be reading about the rise of the Third Reich.
Seriously.
