salto mortale

I don't see any meltdown. I just see a bunch of shrill and self-congratulatory blog comments.

Over at FDL, they have a video up of a supposed Barbara Boxer "meltdown." Even digby says it is a "must see." I'm sorry, I just don't see the meltdown on that video. Can somebody explain where it is to me? The video just wasn't that impressive, and the idea that the questioning of Boxer in the video was "heroic" is a joke. Sure Boxer was mildly stern with the questioner, but tough shit, that's life. I deal with harsher people than that every day, and that hardly makes me some kind of heroic warrior. Maybe bloggers and blog readers need to get away from their computers more often.

I've questioned why Senator Boxer is campaigning for Lieberman myself, and I wrote her an email expressing my displeasure about it, but many of the attacks on her in the comments section over there are just idiotic. I'm disappointed in Boxer for campaigning for Lieberman too, but she's still one of the more liberal Senators we've got. Suggesting that she is some kind of traitor to be cut loose for daring not to fall in line with the netroots position on the Lamont-Lieberman race is lame. At this point, I prefer a disappointing but mostly good Senator Boxer to the delusions of grandeur and hysterical blog commenters I see over at FDL.

UPDATE: Maura, the woman that questioned Boxer in the above video says
I’m not sure I’d characterize my exchange with Boxer as a meltdown on her part. I do think, though, that she’s taken on Joe Lieberman’s imperious tone and approach to this primary.

Call me crazy, but with all the criticism Boxer has gotten on FDL and DailyKos about Lieberman and the "short ride" comment, I thought she’d actually want to take the question. If she took the time to listen to our concerns and then had a real exchange about it (rather than shutting us down and rushing away) she might have earned a lot of respect from people who are wondering why she is doing what she is doing. Instead she was peeved and dismissive and essentially told us to shut our traps and do what NARAL and Planned Parenthood tell us to do.

Senator Boxer is one of the best Democrats in the Senate and one of our strongest women voices in Congress. She’s so much more progressive than just about everyone else in the Senate, and her support for Lieberman does not erase all the good that she has done or nullify her status as a great leader.
Maura basically said what I wanted to say, but much more eloquently than my rant. I feel sort of bad about badmouthing FDL now.
