Sometimes, he's another unctuous, hackish, establishment Republican, repeating the party line.

Other times (and not infrequently) he puts his finger precisely on the issue he's analyzing, apparently untainted by partisan bias or his perception of his obligations to the Movement.

This is one of those precise and interesting columns. It's tough for me to disagree in his assessment of Obama's potential -- and his risk.
