The version that comprises just Barney, Hooky & Steven (4:34) - I don't believe - has ever surfaced on CD yet... As for other versions of Ceremony, there exists: - The version that appeared on New Order's "Ceremony" 7" single is the 4:34 version - the one with just Barney, Hooky & Steven - Live version on Joy Division's 'Still' - Original demo on the Western Works Demos - unreleased, but MP3's exist - Another demo version on Joy Division's 'Heart & Soul' - Live version on New Order's 'Retro' CD 4 (Somebody correct me, if I'm wrong, but I believe the above to be the case)! The French version of International is still called 'International' and not 'Best Of' or 'Greatest Hits' (despite a different sleeve appearing on fnac's website (http://www.fnac.com/Shelf/article.asp?PRID=1362493&SID=447034f9%2De948%2D3e db%2De967%2D15df59759fdf&UID=0847e094c%2Dceec%2D5b41%2Dc6f3%2D1b2213320d05&A ID=&Origin=CALINDEX&Pe=1&No=3&Mu=-28&Fr=0&Mn=57&Ra=-28&To=0) and the French version of Amazon - http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006RGMS/qid=1041730991/sr=1-2/ref=s r_1_3_2/171-5981841-8096266). The 2nd CD doesn't have anything on it that hasn't been released before, although it's much better value than the non-French versions. The US one, however - released in Feburary of this year, does come with a DVD - not sure if this is just Region 1 - which features True Faith video, The Perfect Kiss video, and Blue Monday from 511. It's more exciting than either the album version or single edit, that's for sure, but am I the only one who thinks the electronic base on the Kahane mix sounds distorted? At first I thought it was just the crappy MP3 copy I was listening to, until I got the 20 years promo (which seems to have produced in enormous quantities, there're always 2 or 3 on Ebay) and found out that the base sounded just as bad there. Something sounds slightly wrong with the mix. By the way, what's the story behind it? Am I correct in thinking that it's not just a remix of the Osbourne version but actually a different and earlier recording, done while the band were still trying out different producers in 2000? I know it was written around the same time as "Brutal" and was wondering if they may not have had a similar evolution ("Brutal" having been produced by Rollo, then remixed by Osbourne before it was released). ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Jan 2003 02:58:24 EST From: GaoBest@aol.com Subject: Re: (Fac33) ceremony versions on CD? and 20-yrs promo CD Q In a message dated 1/4/03 11:30:06 PM, nleblanc@NewOrderOnline.com writes: << Anyways, it's a nice piece of collection to have the David Kahne Mix of 60 Miles An Hour, which was done only on US promos.. "It's Your Funeral..." is a regular piece asking the interviewee about their experiences of death and what kind of preparations they'd like for their own funeral. Wonder why they picked Hooky? Anyway, he hasn't really got much to say, except a couple of funny stories about Russ Abbot, tacky American headstones and trying to fix his dear departed mum's broken nose while knocking over her coffin... QUICK - run down the newsagents - they've probably got one left... Best regards and all good wishes for the New Year, Mark Dignam ramsesblue@yahoo.com And to think, I only bought it for the free-flights offer... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? How much production time is needed to make a concert DVD? I am clueless of this stuff, so forgive me for sounding like a moron, but I'm just a consumer deep down. I'm still annoyed that they edited out Barney's pre-BLT sex-story speech because I always love it. I can just imagine if New Order were to release any 80s gig onto DVD, they'd have to take out all the lines about his "big dick" or his cock being as long as the M1, and his constant "fuck you" and "turn that fucking light off" and "you fucking bastards" and "you really don't deserve an encore" and such. Of course it adds to the flavor of the band, but I can certainly understand band and management decisions to make it a family-friendly product! My favorite expletive will always be Ceremony from Kaiser (Oakland) 8-12-85 mixing desk, when he throws in "turn that fucking light off!" while singing verses (not to be confused with the "Blue Monday" performance on PFD). I thought it was so precious. I used to write it out in longhand when telling other New Order fans (in letters, before we had email to use on a mass scale) in 1991/1992 about *why* they needed to get a copy of that gig specifically. I'm just curious (weird segue, but...) if there are others on this list who have traded tapes (not CD/DAT but cassette) of New Order gigs back from the '80s or early '90s. I first started trading New Order live tapes in 1990 - I still remember my first live tape being the New York 12-5-86 from Scott Simpson (who also taped 8-25/26-87 Pier). For that 12-5-86 show, both Dave Thomas and Rich Baybusky also taped, and for awhile I was really obsessed about getting first gen copies from all tapers involved. I remember that I wrote "Atmosphere" as "Walk in Silence" because I thought that was the title (I was always a New Order fan first, before Joy Division). I didn't realize that the "Boing boom tschak" was Kraftwerk's "musique non-stop" and not New Order messing around with their keyboards. Anyway, just curious who else here (besides Fernando) traded back then; most of the New Order traders have grown up and moved onto other stuff, which is understandable. I think for 2002 I traded a total of 4 or 5 times on New Order. In 1992, that would have been my weekly or monthly output with whoever I could find, just to get any gig I could get and play on cassette. xox Mike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Jan 2003 22:34:38 -0000 From: "Mark Reed" Subject: Re: (Fac33) Poor sound on 511 The 5.1 sound is great, its the 2.0 sound that sucks goat cock. Talking of trading, I always used to look forward to the post man in the 80's and 90's because I'd normally get some NO show from someone - there was a guy in Scotland who had a million shows, I can't remember his name but he always used to send me stuff.
