No matter how good one thinks BM is, listening to it 4 times on one CD is just too much. From a collector/archive perspective I can see the point, but for regular listening... ? Not for me. I actually like the Retro idea to let people pick tracks and put them in a listenable order. Obviously I want to have more non-CD tracks available on CD but other than that, don't we have most of the tracks anyway? Now, please reissue all the videos on DVD, preferrably with some extra-material. Hey Hey, I notice -1 is doing a pretty cool thing and offering rare edits/mixes etc. from older New Order releases for MP3 download on his site. I enjoyed his 7" edit of Thieves Like Us alot so I'd like to contribute a track alot of fans may not have. I'm referring to "Vicious Circle (the NewOrder mix)" that was only available on the Ruined in a day cassette single which I'm very fortunate to own. Looking back at the turbulent '93 Republic period, this was the only non-album track New Order recorded. A remixed version by Mike Hass did appear on the RIAD CD5, but I personally prefer the original. Hooky subsequently re-used his VC bassline for Monaco's 2nd single, Sweet lips. (which I think caused outrage at the time lol!) It's 4:08 long, and in 192 kbps MP3 format. I'm still hunting for a place to stick the file for general download. Perhaps one of the larger sites NOOL, or WIM would be interested in hosting it? It's a totally obscure track and I'm sure the band or management won't mind it being widely available in a relatively modest tape-to-MP3 form. Hooky has referred to this track as an "unfinished demo" more than once which may explain its absence from the RIAD CD5. The transfer I did today is very clean sounding and put through a Nakamichi tape deck (ace quality) The file was normalised correctly so there are no awful distorted beats ;) Aside from a very quiet bit of tape hiss (unavoidable) at the beginning and end, I'm really pleased with it. It even went on my bumper Technique/Republic MDLP2 MiniDisc :D Keep you posted on finding some hosting space, Ally. ___________________________________________ alistair j. murray - allymonaco@lineone.net web - coming soon .. msn - allymonaco@hotmail.com - ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jan 2003 01:18:17 -0000 From: "Brian McGee" Subject: (Fac33) Differences Quiz... [history] new order's seventh release, this is probably one of the biggest singles of all-time, and one of my personal favorites of all-time also...what else can be said about it.. it's revolutionary, its a sign of the future, it defined a generation and an era.. and cemented 'new order' in the musical history books for the rest of time.. hyperbole on my part? perhaps.. but if it weren't for this single, i might not have ever heard of 'new order'.. here in the US, we just didn't get this kind of music, and NEVER heard it on the radio.. seeing the mysterious 12" floppy disc packaging drew me to it, i just had to hear it... and since then life has never been the same.. [review] this is an interesting version of 'blue monday'.. it's quite short, since they had to play it on tv.. i'm sure a lot of it was sequenced, because at times when watching the video, they don't seem to be playing.. in fact, they seem rather bored.. (but its funny).. the vocals are kind of high in the mix, but are very clear.. and the recording is excellent also...you can hear all the guitar work..it has all the elements of the full version, but is nicely editted.. and at one point bernard starts laughing.. oh yeah, and notice he changes the last line to 'while i walked down to the street', instead of 'the beach'... a great glimpse back in time, for a classic song.. this version is transferred digitally from laserdisc, so the quality is excellent.. feel free to post your thoughts on it... I've never seen it, and I know it's like True Faith 94 and it's a mix of all other videos together, but I kind of like the Hardfloor edit version.. (I know, I must be one of the few).. it's not up to the Manuela mix, but it's a good edit version. michael roehr writes: >> i'm not sure how often this >> video got played.. >> >> it was released on videotape >> in 1985... > > i've always tried to find a good audio source to remaster this video. even > on the Shorts tape the audio leaves MUCH to be desired. i would prefer to > play this on some nights that i VJ since 7+ min videos often lose the > attention span of casual club goers. the 88 video does nothing for me as > well. so in the mean time i made a montage edit of the Pumped live footage > mixed with the original video for a more stimulating presentation overall. > > mike > > ------- > + Ceremony mailing list web page: http://www.monkey.org/~laps/ceremony/ > + To talk to a person, send mail to . ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 16:56:22 -0600 From: "-1" Subject: (Fac33) _ceremony_digest_numbers_ on an administrative note here to the list owners.. i noticed we're still in 2002 mode? v2002.n062 01-Jan-2003 16:25 36k v2002.n063 05-Jan-2003 17:40 39k v2002.n064 08-Jan-2003 18:42 38k v2002.n065 12-Jan-2003 03:43 38k v2002.n066 14-Jan-2003 13:02 37k v2002.n067 18-Jan-2003 12:47 37k since digest # 62.... i was going back and archiving all the posts, so they would be easier to search and i noticed that.. will they be renumbered? by the way, there's a lot of good stuff, back in the 1994-1996 postings... later | | || | | || | ne g ativ e 1 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 19:11:07 -0500 (EST) From: Warren Lapham Subject: Re: (Fac33) _ceremony_digest_numbers_ On Tue, 21 Jan 2003, -1 wrote: > on an administrative note here > to the list owners.. > > i noticed we're still in 2002 mode? yes. unfortunately, my usual method of changing them did not work, and i have not had time to investigate other methods of getting it done (or to ask for help from my server admins). > will they be renumbered? yes. i may have another go at it again tonight. - -w. - -- http://www.warlap.net/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 18:36:00 -0600 From: "-1" Subject: (Fac33) _arthur_baker_in_london_ repost from another list: Apparently there's another Return to New York scheduled at the Great Eastern Hotel in London on Feb 22nd. http://www.theavalanches.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=351 quote: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- Soulwax djs Erol Alkan New Order vs Pet Shop Boys DJ set (so that’s why Neil Tennant was propping up the bar at the last one) Freedum (live) – Peaches Gonzales, and Taylor Savvy’s rock band! For a box set, only half of it is of interest to a fan. *Well, not bad... ;-) Now I'm going to be sad and make suggestions for what I'd liked to have seen on the disc. FAN : Salvation, Cries & Whispers *And Mesh! :-) I'm starting to worry about The Perfect Kiss... am I wrong or the only CD were you can find the (much better) full version is Substance? Since then they always included the album version (without the grand finale, one of the things that made me a fan when I discovered them) on compilations (Best Of, International and Retro)... LIVE: Manchester Apollo 16 July 1998 *Yes! Best concert ever! BONUS Everythings Gone Green - Tolworth 83 *Naah, Bruxelles Ancienne Belgique 1981! That's truly electro punk! Mm. Looks better already! *Yes, you'd have compiled a good CD if given the task, but I'm happy with this box set anyway, because there's too much good stuff to disappoint you, even if you already have it somewhere else... it's just good to have this box set... and the booklet alone is worth the price... which here in Italy is just slightly more expensive than buying two standard CDs, not bad for four CDs lasting like 8 LPs and the booklet... There are so many interesting and funny phrases... There's still so much stuff that must be released properly. I can't believe they won't group all the latest B sides into a compilation... and those Peel Session... I'm sure other rarity CDs will follow, maybe after the next album... for now I'm truly happy with this box set, and I don't even have the bonus disc! ;-) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 15:55:50 -0500 (EST) From: "Sung J. Looks like Xmas came early for me this year! *I'd say this box set is just like going home for Christmas! ;-) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 06:39:19 -0600 From: "Ivarsson, Torbjorn (T)" Nice to see you're still here. I try to avoid the online forums because of all the semi-private chit-chat, plus I kind of enjoy the possibility to read Ceremony off-line... Oh well, maybe it's time to go back to usenet... *I don't have anyhting against online forums or newsgroups, they're all cool for what they do, it's just that a mailing list, especially in plain text, is much faster (and yes, can be used offline). Also, you don't have to decide to get the messages, you just get them in your mail box once you're subscribed... while with the other places you have to actually remember to go there, and you don't always have time enough... and getting the messages chronologically is just much easier than browsing threads... I think Ceremony is still the place to meet, even if I enjoy seeing other places when I have the time, it's just that mailing lists are still technically better than anything else... mick: mick973@email.it Retro reviewed: http://stop.at/theneworders - -- Prendi GRATIS l'email universale che... risparmia: http://www.email.it/f Sponsor: Consigli su piante, fiori e bonsai?
