I think you left it under the sofa in the back room. Anyone else think the Silk Mix is the best New Order mix from that era? VERY glad it made it to the box set. So no-one got my Joy Division pointless trivia question - or more likely - no-one could be arsed. There's about five seconds of the audience sound from the Amsterdam gig between two of the live tracks on Heart and Soul disc four, don't ask me why, but it's definitely edited in there! I think it's the audience sound from between Passover and Wilderness and it sounds like it's from the Red Line bootleg CD ! Sound like a nerd I know, but I just tend to notice this kind of shit. And shit it is. Tried sending an email to ahw@factory-u-net.com which is the email address for Tony Wilson on www.factoryrecords.com, but the address bounced back saying 'no such domain'! Typical Factory. What do people on this list think of the idea of a Joy Division DVD? I'm not taking the piss, I'm serious. - - Atmosphere & LWTUA promo videos - - BBC Something Else - - Granada Reports 1978 Shadowplay - - Granada Reports 1979 She's Lost Control - - Dutch TV Feb 1980 Transmission - - Eindhoven from Fact37 with improved sound from the bootleg. - - Three live tracks from 14.3.79 and anything else from the pulled substance video - - Anything else Wilson finds after a colonic irrigation - - If there were, say, 20 tracks in all, the DVD could be called "20 0" Bonus Features - - "In Conversation" - interviews from Something Else and any other such material around - - "Joy Division's Greatest Shit" - all the Manchester Apollo tracks from Oct79. The original 12" (including the Streetwise USA 12") contains the following versions of Confusion: 8:13 Confusion * 5:19 Confusion Beats 7:33 Confusion Instrumental 8:04 Confusion Rough Mix The first track, "Confusion" (8:13) is now available on Retro. The second track, "Confusion Beats" (5:19), I presume is the version on the "Perfect Beat Vol. 2" compilation, although I don't have this, yet. I have, however, ordered it and will be able to confirm next week! The third track, "Confusion Instrumental" (7:33) has been released on "Substance 1987". The final track, "Confusion Rough Mix" (8:04) is on the Arthur Baker CD "Breakin'". The video is also available on the US promo CD "Just Beat Suite 03" in a pc-format file, as well as the Japanese laserdisc. I will be able to confirm the "Perfect Beats 2" CD when it arrives. 'cermony' is a very short live excerpt, with barely audible vocals from bernard.. 'tempation' is also very short, but nearly complete.... sounds like a condensed version of the original, with excellent guitar work... 'blue monday (top of pops 83)' is an excellent sounding live version, a rather detached performance, they all look rather bored, is bernard chewing gum while singing? 'blue monday (sunkist commercial)' is rather low-quality sounding, but interesting from a historical perspective.. 'the perfect kiss' is almost the full video, with one comment made at the end... sound quality is ok...lots of high frequencies during parts of it...i thought it might be better than the 'substance' laserdisc..i'm not sure yet.. 'regret (live, baywatch video, los angeles 93)' is an excellent sounding live version, bernard does really well on the vocals, of course the music sounds pre-sequenced..and gillian looks rather odd dressed in dark/gothic clothing on a beach (compared to the short bikinis and outfits on the rest).. 'temptation (live)' is an excellent version, in fact its one of the best live versions of it i've heard so far, and much better than the shorter 3/4min versions of recent years...similar to the 'substance' mix, very clear vocals/good bass...there's a few moments when the vocals are too high for bernard to sing...highly recommended.. 'everyone everywhere (live)', another excellent version, of a rather slow song..its cool because gillian is much more present onstage, playing the guitar, and they all sound very clear together.. later | | || || ||| ne gativ e 1 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 01:07:29 -0500 From: "P SAVILLE" Subject: (Fac33) Retro question I just bought Retro..nice package....I like the live cd the best. Cries & Whispers. It was mislabeled on Substance and no one ever fixed it. It is, however, labelled correctly on the box set. m. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 17:39:07 EST From: Cynflux@aol.com Subject: (Fac33) (off-topic) sounds like Electronic and New Order This is off-topic but if you like the sound of Electronic and New Order, you might like the following song. Its by an american indie band called Low Technicians. http://www.lowtechnicians.com/low_technicians-Desolation.mp3 The low technicians take the electro/guitar combination pioneered by such bands as New Order and Electronic and brings the sound into the 21st century. Tight electronic rhythms wound around powerful, melancholy songs. Sorry for the off-topic. I CHANGED IT TO .pm3 so that PEOPLE WONT LINK TO IT etc...i will also be changing the link location etc, so spiders/robots, and file linkers won't pick up on them.. 4) there's a separate message board function there, to maintain more private requests, etc... 5) if you can't find a file, i would appreciate it if people would share them amongst themselves, or host them elsewhere... well, anyways enough issues, and back to the music.. later || | | ||| || || | ne g ati ve 1 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Feb 2003 00:35:26 -0600 From: "-1" Subject: (Fac33) [mp3] -> _new_order___the_perfect_kiss(7inch_remix)___ 'now i know' ok new-order'ers, [mp3] here is one of my all-time favorite tracks... it's the 7" remix of 'the perfect kiss".. it's not on 'substance', 'best of', 'retro', or 'international'... [history] new order's eleventh release, this appears on several of the 7" releases, and promos.. however it appears only on the vinyl , and not on cd yet... [review] this version is an attempt at condensing the full version down to a manageable length.. it still retains most of the intensity and complex rhythms, although it omits a verse.. great combination of guitar work and keyboards.. similiar to the album version though...
