Republic's sleeve is gorgeous, and so are the singles. They looked like movie posters. The thing that I really loved about Republic was how on the inside of the sleeve they showed the pictures, with the words "Coming up...", "Next..." and "Later..." with pictures that would eventually form the sleeves from Ruined in a Day, World, and Spooky's covers. Very cool. On the subject of "Special", I would have loved a version of it sung by Gillian... because it sounds like it was written for her voice and not Bernard. I agree I love the sleeves of the Republic era, stock photos or otherwise, but Gillian's voice as a lead..... ok - it's just a matter of opinion but I think it would have brought the standard of the record down quite a bit. Special has always been one of my favourite tracks from Republic though. You know the way Hooky's bass is mixed so low it's almost inaudible for most of the album - I'd love to hear a CD of Republic before Hague and co got their hands on it..... I mean, can you imagine how good some of those songs would be without the gloss? Come on lads - dig out the tapes and release it as "A N E W O R D E R C A S H - I N" or something - I'd love demos from this album to see the light of day. Amazon just told me that my copy of the US International with the DVD is on its way. I'm not really that worked up about it as I think most of it is rehash. Woo-hoo-- BLT Shep Pettibone remix. I must have like 15 original copies of that track by now. Not sure if this was brought up already, but I was wondering if the Perfect Kiss 12" version listed on this release is the full 8:46 mix or the Substance edit. I'd really love it if they finally digitized the complete 12", as it remains my all-time favorite NO track and it pains me that I still can't hear it in it's full glory on CD. After years of spending very little on New Order, it seems my wallet is really getting lightened lately what with the Retro box, Finsbury Park, International, and 24 HPP all hitting the shelves in a month's span. The Finsbury Park DVD is wicked. The setlist is excellent and their performance is tight. Sad not seeing Gillian, though. Is there any word on her involvement in the next album? I also snagged a copy of that 24 Hour Party People FACDVD424 that HMV had offered. I'm a design nut, so the silver "hearing protection" retro package definitely appealed. Tony's commentary is great. I really like how he closes with the nod to Rob Gretton. It's really a funny thing, that-- commentary by the fellow portrayed in the film-- but it really serves to make this an historical record of a shining moment in music history rather than just a funny re-enactment. On many occasions Tony's commentary coincides with Hooky's or the other folks' take on things in the separate commentary on the other disc. I guess what this whole thing does most is make me regret not having saved and scraped up money for a trip to Manchester to check out the Hac back in the day. Alas, I'll have to live vicariously through this film. I wish I could view it in 5.1. If only I hadn't dropped all this recent loot on New Order merchandise, I'd be halfway to a decent 5.1 receiver. ;) Best wishes, - -Hugh ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 02:34:35 -0000 From: "Nick King" Subject: RE: (Fac33) US International CD question That HMV-limited sleeve was very limited - I bagged the last two copies from HMV in Oxford Street on Monday, and they won't get any more as it's listed as 'Discontinued' on their system - so if you can find one, grab it now! ;-> Dave, yours will be winging their way stateside as soon as I can get down to the post office! I was listening to my copy of Closer last night and realised it as a Factory release (with a catalogue number of FacXXV). I bought it around the end of '94/ beginning of '95 (new, not second hand), and, before checking, would have presumed it was more likely to be a London Records re-issue, or like some of my other JD CD's on some European re-issue label (* I think *). I found a JD discography site which says Factory released Closer on CD in 1986. Spose my question is, when did Factory CDs stop being issued under the Factory name? This one could have been hanging around the shop for a while I guess. IMHO, not all songs are suitable for such activity, especially the Bolton tracks I've heard... :) T. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 10:35:04 -0800 From: Edwin Veltman Subject: (Fac33) 60 Miles an Hour (Superman's Lover Remix) Hi all, I just recently came across a cd with a rare track on it, "60 Miles an Hour (Superman's Lover Remix)". It's also got other rare tracks from the likes of Coldplay and the Charlatans UK. The only info I could find on the track was at http://www.worldinmotion.net/neworder/discography/compilations/2001/clubbang .htm : CLUB BANG October 2001 US 2001 ( CDPRO-1001) [Limited Edition 5000 Copies] 60 Miles An Hour (Superman's Lover Remix) Various Artists. Rarities Volume 1. Anyone have any info on it, how much the cd might be worth? I was thinking of selling it on eBay. M - ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Little" To: Sent: Thursday, February 13, 2003 11:50 AM Subject: (Fac33) FacXXV Hi Possibly a stupid question, so I apologise in advance, but...
