Ok, I know that many people dislike the 12" track but I cannot say that it is _that_ bad, I actually like it and always had. NO have worse tracks, let's say State Of The Nation. It's hard to argue with taste though... > to me, this really started the bad trend of the > many, many, horrible remixes that would > come out later for new order.. [snip, snip] > and ultimately for me, was a death blow > for what direction i felt they were going > with their mixes.. Argh, bashing remixes - again. Since I am the self-proclaimed defender of remixes I just have to say something here. To me, up until Substance, New Order was defined by the 12" releases, not the albums - that seems to have changed with Technique though. With Technique, which was releases in the early stages of the modern club-culture, we also started to see remixes that were more than just "extended versions". We started to see remixes where other artists were re-shaping the sound, instead of just re-edit the sound. I believe some fans cannot muster those remixes unless the remixers keep Barney's vocals, Stephen's drums, Gillian's keyboards, and (perhaps most important) Hooky's bass intact... Personally, I like remixes. They allow me to see (or listen to) NO in a different perspective. Sure, there are some remixes that quickly fades in my memory (and on the dance-floor) but other remixes emerge as classics, e.g. the Slow'n'Low mix of Regret, the K-Klass mix of RIAD, Pump Panel's Confusion, and Lee-Comb's Crystal. The "extended mixes" from the 80's are also good. On a final note: I wish NO brought back Armand van Helden to remix more tracks ;) /T ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2003 12:46:19 -0600 From: "-1" Subject: (Fac33) [mix technical data] -> _new_order_dub-vulture(inch)__v0.1__ 'i always try, i always miss' ok neworder's, here's the data for the 'dub-vulture' (7")... there's a lot more complicated interleaving going on with the vocals than the regular remix version... I discovered their 12" singles around 1987, when I bought a bunch of them at once, and enjoyed every one of them. (My only problem with Subculture was the noise at the end going on a bit too long for my taste.) Until I joined this list, I never realized how much people disliked it overall. My least favorite single, though, was State Of The Nation. However, I've got a new appreciation for the song, after hearing various live versions of it. > Personally, I like remixes. They allow me to see (or listen to) > NO in a different perspective. Sure, there are some remixes that > quickly fades in my memory (and on the dance-floor) but other > remixes emerge as classics, e.g. the Slow'n'Low mix of Regret, > the K-Klass mix of RIAD, Pump Panel's Confusion, and Lee-Comb's Crystal. In a way, I agree with you. I like all the mixes mentioned. I am a huge fan of the classic 12" extended remixes. I also like to hear new spins on New Order songs. However, that stops when I cannot identify the song while listening to the remix. I want to be able to say definitively (or at least guess and have a good chance of being right), "This is 1963" or "This is Regret". That's my only peeve with the modern remixes. It doesn't necessary need all of what you mentioned (Barney's vocals, Stephen's drums, etc.) just some resemblance to the original. I don't go to clubs, so when I listen, I'm sitting at home or at my desk at work. I don't necessarily want to hear 9+ minutes of repeated drum beats. Just my humble opinion. Later, J.W. "I lift my eyes to the sound and the sky and I hear it. A voice on the breeze. So serene." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2003 13:23:43 -0600 From: "-1" Subject: (Fac33) [mix technical data] -> _new_order_sub-culture(12inch)__v0.1__ 'i always try, i always miss' ok neworder's, here's the data for the 'sub-culture' (12")... a much, much longer, and more complex interleaving of the vocals..
