The night will kick off tomorrow – Thursday March 13 – with Sona Fariq playing live and DJ sets from Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream producer) and Eddy Temple-Morris (XFM’s The Remix). Doors open at 7pm. Additionally, if you register with their SMS messenger service by clicking here (http://www.smsmessenger.co.uk/bakersjam/), and are one of the first 10 people to show their SMS text on the night, you’ll get a copy of Arthur Baker’s mix of New Order’s ‘Confusion’. Arthur Baker is of course, an early hip hop producer who experimented with tape edits and synthetic beats before crossing over into the mainstream . Perhaps his most famous landmark, was producing Afrika Bambaataa’s classic ‘Planet Rock’ single. l8rs, Nick ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Mar 2003 09:22:44 -0500 From: "P SAVILLE" Subject: Re: (Fac33) _website_vs_digests_ Way to go -1...I'm with you all the way on this one. The film, which get a full scale Ossie release on Thursday March 20, was showed at the weekend in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with many of the screenings selling out completely. Smith’s guitarist Johnny Marr, speaking to Australian website Undercover, said… “Thank God somebody (Factory) was that ridiculous because sometimes that is the only way you get things moving.” l8rs, Nick ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 17:45:19 +1030 From: "Brad Edwards" Subject: Re: (Fac33) shellshock Thanks Nick > > Is the Thieves Like Us instrumental the same version as on Substance? But I played the record and the CD simultaneously. The 12 " seemed faster. That is, it seems like it's exactly the same version but finishes earlier because it's faster. It really is noticeably different. Am I mad or is it just a difference in the mixing/mastering process? It sounds plausible that it is the same version, but mastered differently... Anyone? If no one replies, I've got the US 12" with the same track on it, so I'll verify later on this evening. l8rs, Nick ;-) > Thanks Nick > > > > Is the Thieves Like Us instrumental the same version as on > Substance? The record, called Hope, will feature stars including David Bowie, George Michael and New Order. Many have written songs specially for it. Others will cover classic peace songs. Yusuf Islam - formerly singer-songwriter Cat Stevens - has recorded his first song in English in 30 years. Major record label WEA will produce and distribute the album, which will be in the shops next month, without taking a profit. War Child will start to spend the money it raises after the first week of sales. The charity's James Topham said last night: "The children in Iraq are already deeply traumatised after 12 years of sanctions and the impending conflict will be truly devastating. "With a recent survey showing that 40 per cent of children in Iraq are unable to see the point in living, restoring hope to their lives will be one of the important things we can do." "War Child have staff on the ground preparing for the inevitable humanitarian disaster and have already put in place plans for helping children rebuild their lives after the war. "The money from this record will allow us to begin that work immediately." Aid agencies fear more than 10million Iraqis may starve if war goes ahead with more than 60 per cent of the population facing hunger. Experts predict at least 500,000 Iraqis will be affected as a direct result of war, with up to 80,000 deaths. Charities estimate there will be two million refugees with one million Iraqis displaced inside the country. Speaking from the Iraqi border, War Child chief executive Norman Sheehan said he feared the worst. "I hope I am very wrong but the more time I spend here, the more I fear we are going to witness an appalling level of suffering. "After the 12 years of stress and trauma that the Iraqi children have gone through, you could put 1,000 War Childs into Iraq and still not meet all the needs. "Once we are allowed into the country we need to start work as soon as possible. "This album will help us work quickly to do what we can to help the children of Iraq." The album follows the success of a similar one, called Help!, released by War Child in 1995 to raise money for children in Bosnia. It went straight into the charts at No1 after only one day's sales, becoming the fastest recorded studio album as well as the fastest No1 - and raising nearly £2million for humanitarian agencies in the area. Mr Topham said: "The response from musicians has been fantastic for this new record. "Once again we are delighted to be working closely with the Daily Mirror on such an important project." l8rs, Nick ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2003 02:16:46 +0100 From: "Mick Aneworderfan" Subject: Subject: RE: (Fac33) -1 POSTS Date: Tue, 11 Mar 2003 12:44:54 -0000 From: Brian McGee Subject: RE: (Fac33) -1 POSTS Not sure I agree with you there alejo, the delete button is ok for us, = but not for digest readers. *OK, I'm on the digest, I usually read what -1 writes because he's doing a great service to us, but I'm also on other mailing lists with unbelievably _huge_ digests. You can't imagine how's the Bjork mailing list if you never seen it. There are 60 or 70 posts a day and of course I can't read them all... and I receive a newsletter with info about Italian concerts which is also extremely huge... There's a key in our keyboards: Page down. It scrolls down all the part of the page you have on your screen each time you push it. If you push it three times it's highly likeley even the longest post will be finished by then, and you should be near the next message. It's just three seconds, I know your time is very precious, but I think it's not such a big deal to waste three seconds to scroll down (not with your mouse, not with the arrow key, but with the Page down key). I'd rather complain for those who _still_ don't edit the quoted text on replys after years being on a mailing list. Like, they write two lines to say something like "I agree" and don't cut all the quoted text below, and it's like having the same message two times. People, please select useless quoted text (it takes two seconds: push Shift and scroll down until the end of the text) and push the Delete key. mick: mick973@email.it aneworderfan: http://surf.to/aneworderfan - -- Prendi GRATIS l'email universale che... risparmia: http://www.email.it/f Sponsor: La mamma, il papà, i nonni, i bambini, i fidanzati: un semplice click per i tuoi doni Clicca qui: http://adv.email.it/cgi-bin/foclick.cgi?mid=1076&d=20-3 ------------------------------ End of ceremony-digest V2003 #21 ******************************** ------- + For information on subscribing/unsubscribing and the digest archives, + see the Ceremony web page: http://www.monkey.org/~laps/ceremony/ + To talk to a person, send mail to .
