Now, I grant you, a lot of my problem with it probably has to do with the source material (it is a cover after all). But, I have to at least let the band shoulder some of the blame. I mean, obnoxious organ parts, vibroslap, and backup singers??? Blech. And, I actually dislike that fact that its lyrically similar to "Love Vigilantes". I mean, its almost like it cheapens "Love Vigilantes" by giving away the secret of where the inspiration for that track came from. Maybe that doesn't make any sense to anyone but me. I guess it'd be like if New Order released a cover of "Walk on the Wild Side" (to me an obvious inspiration for parts of "Every Little Counts"). Anyway, there you have it. - -=A=- On Wed, 16 Apr 2003, P SAVILLE wrote: > I'm surprised that there are not many comments yet regarding the new track > "Vietnam". > > I quite like it. > > Lyrically, it reminds me of Love Vigilantes. > > N. > > > _________________________________________________________________ > MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* > http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus > > ------- > + Ceremony mailing list web page: http://www.monkey.org/~laps/ceremony/ > + To talk to a person, send mail to . > ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 13:31:23 -0400 From: "michael roehr" Subject: Re: (Fac33) Vietnam > I have to say, in all honesty, it has to be the single worst song > officially released as New Order that I have heard, bar none. Crystal did it the backing vocals best though and the more i've listened to Vietnam, the more i like it. it's no where near as atrocious as Rock The Shack and it is better than most of the covers on the Hope compilation. mike ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 10:50:39 -0700 (PDT) From: "Andrew J. Um, I will grant you its a close tie with "Rock the Shack". But, at least "Rock the Shack" has some kinda attitude. Crappy "We're all almost 50, but we can still RAwwwkkk!!!" attitude, but attitude nonetheless. And, the '87 version of "Subculture" is essentially a remix with newly recorded vocals, so it hardly counts to begin with. (And, I just like it, so sue me). - -=A=- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 22:27:45 +0100 From: "Al Jarvis" Subject: Re: (Fac33) Vietnam > > And, the '87 version of "Subculture" is essentially a remix with newly > recorded vocals, so it hardly counts to begin with. I was used to a digest every five days or so, but it must be ten since the last one... I'll forward this mail to Warren so he'll tell me if there's something not working with the list or if it's just you all went so quiet. I expected some comments about Vietnam, which you can already hear streaming on http://www.hope-cd.com/ I mean, at leat Eddie Colton should take the piss out of this track! ;-) It's not that good, is it? It's very lightweight, could have been done much better... I like the guitar, but the song as a whole is quite useless. It's very commercial though, could have been a hit single maybe... I hope the CD gets distributed in Italy, otherwise I wouldn't enjoy so much spending a lot of money for an International Money Order just for this song, probably the best thing ever released from New Order... I know it's just a cover (but there many other songs they could have covered, and even this could have been covered better) but I hope the new New Order material is nowhere near to this. I'm afraid to say I enjoy more hearing Simply Red's Sunrise on the radio, that's quite a nice song in the commercial pop field... mick: mick973@email.it the NewOrders: http://www.neworder.musicpage.com - -- Email.it, the professional e-mail, gratis per te: http://www.email.it/f Sponsor: Cerchi una vera occasione?
