The list is working *Hi T, thank you, but where are the dozens of daily posts? ;-) I guess we're alla waiting for the next move from our heroes... any news from the insiders about the work in progress on the new album? >It seems to me that it is in fashion these days to bash everything that the >guys put out. *Not for me, really. I loved about everything they did... I can't remember the last time I was truly disappointed by a New Order song, this couled even be the first time... I remember hating Time Can Tell by Electronic (sounds too much like Gary fucking Barlow), I remember a couple of weak tracks by Monaco and The Other Two, but not a bad New Order song... there have been songs I liked a bit less than the others, like 60 Miles An Hour (which has been growing a lot afterwards, though), Liar, and... well, I don't know... State Of The Nation, maybe... but they weren't actually bad songs. Vietnam is disappointing, it's soft reggae by numbers for your granny who likes a couple of UB40 tracks. I like reggae and dub, but not like this... they should have worked with Lee Perry or Mad Professor, then the results could have been much better. Yesterday they told me the record will arrive in my record shop, I'm really happy as I hadn't no wish of making the effort of ordering it from a foreign country, it wouldn't have been worth it really, while it would have been for The Beach soundtrack already, but this Hope... I'll maybe listen to it once and then forget it on my shelf... I think this is just a bad move, but everything else they did in the recent years has been great. One year ago we were wondering if Get Ready would have been good enough to stand the test of time. It fucking does, I never get tired of it, and I even appreciate more and more some songs, like 60 Miles An Hour... I listen to it on my car stereo and I'm just like the man in the video, you know... shouting along like a fool, it's really uplifting... and what about the B sides, the wonderful Peel Sessions, and Here To Stay, the amazing like performances... this Vietnam is just a bad episode, but I'm sure the next thing New Order will do will be great as everything they did since they reformed. > Let's face it, nothing can be as great as the good old tunes. *Oh yes, many things in fact... yes, there are a couple of untouchable tunes, like Blue Monday, Perfect Kiss and True Faith, but from Vicious Streak to Close Range, from Sabotage to Player In The League, from Crystal to Here To Stay... they're all good as Bizarre Love Triangle, 1963, Run... >Personally, no NO track has been an instant hit with me, with the exception >of Regret, most have matured over time. *With me it's split between instant love for tracks like Crystal, and maturing love for tracks like 60 Miles An Hour... As for Vietnam, I like it. I don't >need a NO track to be this cult-classic that makes every acclaimed >music-critic drool with excitement. I find enjoyment in a simple and catchy >sing-a-long track, even if it fades away (or not) into the music-cemetary >after a while. > *Right, I guess you still have your Barbie Girl CD single taking the dust somewhere, then... ;-) But I don't really wish to see New Order doing just "catchy" hits like Aqua, especially if they're hidden in compilations... was it a single, maybe I could understand, maybe they could have had a hit with it, but it's just a compilation track, so it could be seriously powerful music like they usually do... and by the way they did catchy tunes wich were also great songs, like Temptation, True Faith, Fine Time, Worls In Motion, 60 Miles An Hour... this is catchy, but I wouldn't like it to stay in my memory, I'd like to forget it soon in fact... >Is it their worst song ever? Nope. *Oh yes! What would be worse then? >Is it the best song they've released this year? Yepp. *Erm, it's the only one, right? :-) >Is it better than nothing? Yepp. > *Mmmh... only if there are still too many months until the next release. If there was a single scheduled for October or something, I would have quietly waited for that without Vietnam... Meanwhile, Johnny Marr, Gabrielle's Wish and Durutti Column have all released great albums (with no songs as bad as Vietnam), and Prefab Sprout's Paddy McAloon and Steely Dan are releasing very well promising records in the next months. It's not like I don't know what new stuff to hear without Vietnam... ;-) >Then again, I am also a fan of Kylie Monigue... !) > *Oh, some songs are excellent... Confide In Me, Spinnning Around, Can't Get You Ourt Of My Head, and that version mixed with Blue Monday.. she sometimes does great stuff... mick: mick973@email.it aneworderfan: http://surf.to/aneworderfan - -- Email.it, the professional e-mail, gratis per te: http://www.email.it/f Sponsor: Vuoi vedere le luna e le stelle? Oh, a suggestion for the New Order Chat, while I'm here again: I thank all those who came to check... I know it's difficult to find other people in the room, since there aren't so many list members as, say, on Yahoo! Chat, and we all connect at different times because of the time zones... I think you could organize chat sessions if you wish, like writing here something like "let's meet on May 2 at 9 PM of GMT" (I think keeping the GMT in messages is easier for everyone as it's an international standard and everyone knows the difference with their own time zone), so those who wish to check the chat know it's easier to find other fans in that moment than any other time. mick: mick973@email.it New Order Chat: http://www.neworder.musicpage.com - -- Email.it, the professional e-mail, gratis per te: http://www.email.it/f Sponsor: Conto Arancio. 3,70% di guadagno facile facile. I got them in 1994/1995 on Maxell XL2s brand tapes. They sound really fucking good. Each are two-tracks, one per tape side. Thus with a blank CDR I can do an itunes burn within 10 minutes, per concert. I'll fill blank cdrs, you just send postage and the blanks, with a SASE or an address label. You must send fuji or other Japanese brand only, because my itunes is FUSSY and doesn't like working with Taiwan/US brand CDRs (TDK, officemax/officedepot, Prime Peripheral, HP, IBM, et al) - actually, ONLY fuji/Mitsui/Japanese brand CDRs - otherwise no deal. Turnaround time from 1 to 3293 days. OK just kidding, 1 to 329 days. OK so maybe 1 to 32 days. For Yanks only - postage overseas is too expensive, although I can do swaps or whatever. If interested, email me for a PO box address. I'm just curious if anyone is into New Order live any longer :p A bit different from your standard FM broadcasts, or the multiple bootleg LP/CD of various UK gigs. The Australia 1987 tour is my FAVORITE tour of them all. I have several hundred cassettes/dats/cdrs of New Order 1980-2001, so am a bit aware of which tours I liked more than others - plus I've met & known most of the famous New Order tapers (ie, those who were fans & taped New Order more than just 1 time in their lives) :-) And you can get tracklists from Water Rat or New Order dot Net websites, although I'm sure the blood-letting competitors NOO and WOM sites also have tracklists! I remember that Sister Ray was encored at least once, wow! xox Mike ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2003 13:07:11 -0700 (PDT) From: happenstance Subject: (Fac33) new order tribute what was that link about the new order tribute? thanks, geoffrey __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Is the UK pressing *that* rare? Didn't they sell a few million copies? Or was it "only" a few hundred thousand copies? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2526134639&category=27351 I just realized that I don't even have one. I always assumed I had it - I even have a promo or two, as well as official pressings from Japan, Greece, Australia, and lord knows where else... so it feels a bit ironic to not own one. And I'm sure I've seen it in London MVE for a pound or two, on average. So is this suddenly *the* collectable pop record to own? So I'm looking forward to learning the story behind this record, or at least to have an idea of why the hell it's going for what I feel is too much money. Thanks xox Mike ps - is there a website showing Blue Monday sleeve scans for different countries & pressings, including the essential information as to which nations received a die-cut or non-die-cut sleeve? And I have a w/l that says "blue monday (remix)" and "the beach (remix)" - is this different or was the "(remix)" part on the sleeves incorrect? Um, I guess I haven't played that 12" yet, silly me. It is the very first pressing of the 12" (as indicated by the "A1" matrix marking), I don't know how many were made. The sleeve seems to be in very good shape, something that drives up the price. How a collector for over 30 years can take out the vinyl and put it on a carpet like that is a different story though... Hmm, I'm pretty sure if a catchy tune would get bashed even more if it was released as a single. A compilation track is (I believe) easier forgotten than a single. Fine Time = catchy?! > >Is it their worst song ever? Nope. > > *Oh yes! What would be worse then? [blasphemy warning=on] Shellshock is easily a worse song. Also, I have never been a fan of the Movement songs. Other than Dreams Never End, the Movement tracks are too gloomy and dark for me and would classify as worse than Vietnam (IMHO)... Of course, I am not a big fan of JD either, though a handful of tracks from Permanent are on heavy rotation in my car. [blasphemy warning=off] > >Is it the best song they've released this year? Face it, with Gillian, Stephen Hague, and Arthur Baker nowhere to be seen, we're lucky this band even HAS a sound anymore. From what I heard before I lost the connection, "Vietnam" sounded great, even if it was more like Electronic. But then I'm one of the few who is open-minded enough to like Twisted Tenderness (and not just the title track). There's a difference between me slagging off the shody production values of Get Ready because it sounds more like a rushed album than one that took several years to complete, and everyone slagging off a cover track that made no promises just because it's different. How can you call yourself a fan when you think the only good songs New Order has done are "Blue Monday" and "The Perfect Kiss"? None of you even have the ears to discern the similarity between "Rock the Shack" and the early Warsaw demo because you can't get past the stupid lyrics. It's a good thing they still play their tired greatest hits at every show, or else they probably wouldn't sell many tickets. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! New Order have never promised anything and have done whatever they fuck they've wanted, even if it means the odd horrible song.I mean, look at the crap reggae remixes of Ruined in a Day...I thought that was very funny..very New order...just like how they got Jon Robbie to butcher Subculture. Many of us respect New Order for not sounding the same all the time, and for taking risks. I don't think I'd like New Order as much if all their songs sounded like Blue Monday or Perfect Kiss. I like Veitnam because it's a nice change...as if they got some time in the studio to loosen up, do something fun...and for a good cause. It's also a pleasant sounding song with thoughtful/darker lyrics...*VERY* New Order...dont you think?! Besides how many bands out there have been able to crossover so brilliantly as New Order [post punk(Movement), dance Republic/Technique), rock(Get Ready) *AND* of course 'reggae by numbers' (Vietman).] Can't wait to hear what they'll put out next!
