Which on my copy (bought earlier this year but not viewed until just now) seems fine. Viewed on my Powerbook G3/500 (top-notch laptop by the way) -> On my DVD player, it distorts if I choose Stereo from the audio setup menu, but sounds excellent if I choose 5.1 I don't know if the Finsbury performance musically was that great, but the band sure seemed to be having fun, rain and all. Some hopefully noteworthy observations: -> Sounded rough, different, but musically I thought it was good. (1) The version of True Faith is superb. But can the Order please stop playing Bizarre Love Triangle? For at least one gig? -> *Or*, could they strengthen the first and third beats in the drum sequence after the intro? It sounds like they recorded the intro and then just stapled it onto the backing track they used in the 1980s, from the point Bernard starts singing, the kicks become much weaker and it makes a very excellent tune sound crap. Also, I remember saying that I wished they'd stop playing Perfect Kiss, good as it is, and now I miss it :-) > Why didn't somebody release Apollo or Ally Pally as a video instead of Finsbury? -> Too similar to Reading 98. > Was Finsbury the first NO gig to feature Dawn Zee throughout? -> Took me a while to get used to her at first, but she adds nicely to True Faith I think. I enjoyed the gig a lot, it was different than Reading. Reading wasn't as "loud noisy guitar", but then again, Joy Division was... Also I don't get > what Monaco has to do with One True Passion. David Potts was in the last incarnation of Revenge. It's fair to lump 'em together, it's not like people listen to Monaco/Revenge to hear anybody else besides Pottsy and Hooky. - --Sam - --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Of course, there are limits to diversity, earth is a single point of failure for the foreseeable future." -- Sean Donelan - --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Jun 2003 04:05:27 EDT From: Cynflux@aol.com Subject: (Fac33) NEW ORDER 1995 Remixes CD-R promo hello. i think someone needs to mention this release on NOOL or the New Order=20 Discography if it hasn't been already. It probably started on Friday night at Badlands (gay SF club that shows remix videos), then continuing to Saturday night of being on the dancefloor amidst the (primarily hot) boys (and a few really hot-looking fag hags), dancing to fabulous remix club videos, while primarily sober. I think I've already pointed out the fantastic videos they showed on too many screens. I wore my Saint Etienne "Tiger Bay" red tshirt (that I bought from a former SE touring musician on ebay), and nobody commented on it,and Badlands didn't show any videos from Saint Etienne, Pet Shop Boys, or New Order (although the Kylie "Can't/Blue Mnday" remix was really really good and of course had the good "blue Monday" drum machine/keyboard intro) It culminated with finding the 4Scott compilation CD at Amoeba (earlier today) for a decent second-hand price ($13.95), and then spending Sunday evening finally getting buzzed (oh hell, I am fucking toasted), drinking 3 basically full tall-shot glasses of 20-yr port (not really posh - it's only $30 or so at Costco), and a tall glass of Brita-filtered water, all while sitting in my Ikea wicker chair in my garden, while reading about the Bulls 1995-1996 championship run (who couldn't not be a Bulls fanatic during this bandwagon period?) and enjoying 3 Dunhill Mild cigarettes (something I was clueless about, but Liz (former friend turned nonfriend) introduced me to them). Oh what bliss - all this while blasting New Order's PFD and then the 316 DVDs (Pal/Euro only - another good reason to own a multiregion/regionfree DVD player that cost $140 on ebay - supercheap in the scheme of things) for brilliant background music. So yes, I'm in heaven, and yes I'm rather toasted, to make up for being basically sober at Badlands on Friday and Saturday nights. And I'm in a generous mood. Take advantage while I'm still drunk. Send me up to 5 blank Japanese-made (Fuji, Mitsui, Taiyen-Kaiyo , et al) CDRs and return postage, and I'll gladly be able to copy any and all of the following to CDR thanks to beloved itunes software on imac. Feel free to share the wealth with your friends. 2003 concerts (all from DAT master & Sonic Stuiods - great recordings unless otherwise indicated): Adult (bottom of the hill) (overall good) Mark Gardener (botto of the hill) Ladytron (bimbos) Calla (bottom of the hill) Ride 1992 Slim's soundcheck (NOT mixer but still excellent - Aiwa with ECM909LT mic) any of the N ew Order Feb 1987 Australia tour (I have about 8 or so gigs available - this is their BEST TOUR EVER because they often did "Sister Ray" or "Do the Ostrich" for encore, although encore included othersongs) New Order 6-19-83 Austin New Order 8-12-85 New Orleans Unrest 1992 Peel session (4 tracks) JAMC 3-18-85 "Riot" gig - entire concert Saint Etienne 9-21-00 Vancouver Saint Etienne 11-19-02 Bimbos Dot Allison 11-19-02 Bimbos (acoustic! warning!) Email me privately for PO box etc., I'll try to do request within a week. I am in way too pleasant of a buzzed mood, although overall I've been in a good mood all weekend. The only problem is that my stomach muscles feel a bit tight, from doing way too many of those Clay Aiken hip-toss movements on Saturday night at Badlands. And to those who've visited and I didn't take you to Badlands, I apologize but I was clueless for quite awhile. Yeah I'm stilltoasted and I want to get some pizza but I may have some organic strawberries first, and see how I feel afterwrds. lerve Mike np New Order Ne York 1981 portion of 316 DVD ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2003 00:42:08 -0700 From: Vincent Subject: Re: (Fac33) NEW ORDER 1995 Remixes CD-R promo Wow! Who'd expect *that* to be done in 1987? And what a brilliant encore of Let's Go and Temptation. Overall a very good gig - loads of hits, but also gems like 586 and Dreams Never End. Plus it sounds fucking great... all these years later. I first got this in 1995 from the taper, played it forever, and then probably didn't play it for ages. xox Mike ------------------------------ End of ceremony-digest V2003 #33 ******************************** ------- + For information on subscribing/unsubscribing and the digest archives, + see the Ceremony web page: http://www.monkey.org/~laps/ceremony/ + To talk to a person, send mail to .
