With the order form info I was sure I would not e-mail my credit card number ever, but fax is a little better -- but still not something I would like to do to order. It's just the art of owning rare shit. You don't have to get it :-) Some people pay a lot of money for live recordings. And some people pay a lot of money for rare stuff. Other people like to chew gum. In the end, it's our own habits, and how we choose to spend our money. I don't understand how people can pay money for live recordings, but that's only because of my obsession with taping and trading. There are people who love bands, but can't understand the appeal of even having a single live concert recording. If someone on this list wins that auction, I'd love to know who and stuff :-) x Mike In a message dated 7/1/03 7:59:21 AM, Brian.McGee@Sentrio.com writes: << Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the attraction of owing any of that stuff. I don't get it. The discussions "what's the point in collecting?" and "who is bigger fan?" have been discussed here almost as often as "did New Order rip off the Cure?". Check the archives. Who's the bigger fan? Well, being in a math-inspired period of my life, I propose the following formula: Assume: year = the year you became a fan y1 = some number (suggested 10) y2 = some number (suggested 33) y3 = some number (suggested 1.5) items = the number of NO items you have i1 = some number (suggested 5) rare = rarity factor (default 1, higher = more rare) shows = how many live shows you've seen s1 = some number (suggested 15) obsessive = max number of consecutive shows in a run trips = number of trips to historical NO places nerd = nerd factor (suggested 4.2) listen = average listening to NO per day (in minutes) Then: fan_index = (y1 + y2 / (year - 1980 + 1)) ^ y3 + items * rare / i1 + shows * s1 * obsessive + trips * nerd + listen The one with the highest fan_index wins. /T. I would say the Hacienda, Dry bar, IC's grave, Factory HQ, Stephen's farm, any place where NO were or had been and you went there just because of that fact (i.e. it doesn't count if you went to the Hac just to party...) > Also the formula should include taping NO gigs (which takes > more stamina > since you're so tempted to dance and have fun) and of course, > having copies of NO > gigs :p Copies of gigs could be included in 'items', and possibly adjust the 'rare' term. Tapings would probably add the term 'tapings * t1', where 'tapings' are the number of shows you've taped, and 't1' some number (perhaps 7 if you also count that show into the 'shows' term, otherwise it'd be higher).
