Yeah, it should be: BS: "Eh...we left our drinks on stage, so we had to come back on. Ahahaha. Hear about the Ethopian prostitute? She had more men than HOT DINNERS." I've been corrected a number of times on this one (see: http://www.new-order.net/no/gigs/nogigs85.html#NO-850206) but didn't *also* make the correction on the quotes page until now. - --Sam ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Mar 2004 19:10:53 -0000 From: "Al Jarvis" Subject: Re: (Fac33) the wit and wisdom of... > > Alec Guinness? How would you weigh a Mission fan?! ;-) Some of the Oxford quotes are wide of the mark too. "Shut your fookin' gobs, as Bernard Manning would say." Candie's is actually CAMBRIDGE, and Barney's not attempting a Midlands accent, far from it, it's his crack at an Oxbridge 'Ok Yah' accent! The Ceremony build up is one of the funniest things I've ever seen though. I had a dislocated shoulder so was up in the circle rather than downstairs - the gig had been fairly middling till then but, boy, did it kick off with that rendition of Ceremony. Anyway, WAKE up makes a lot more sense, so it's been fixed. > Some of the Oxford quotes are wide of the mark too. > "Shut your fookin' gobs, as Bernard Manning would say." Knew it was Bernard Manning, but hadn't corrected the quotes page. I'm hard-pressed to decipher Mancglish during the best of times. Corrected. > Candie's is actually CAMBRIDGE, and Barney's not attempting a Midlands > accent, far from it, it's his crack at an Oxbridge 'Ok Yah' accent! Isn't Oxford next door to the West Midlands? But I take it the accent being mocked isn't derivative of a region, but of a class (same thing with NO's disdain of Edinburgh contrasted with their adoration Glasgow, since the former's middle-class but the latter is working-class, at least as best as I understand how these things work. Thanks again for the correction. > The Ceremony build up is one of the funniest things I've ever seen though. To add to the confusion, the most common portion of this soundcheck may be the six or so minutes that comprises Love Vigilantes and a bit of soundchecking afterwards, as it's the only song listed as being in the soundcheck for the original Waterrat listing, which doesn't mention anything about the other 85-95 minutes. Mine came on the back of the copy of the 14 May 84 Royal Festival Hall gig. It's amusing to speculate whether other folks' copy of RFH also have this as a bonus. In the next few weeks, I'll be going through what I have and see if I can make any sense of this. - --Sam ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 15:28:24 -0800 From: Sam Habash Subject: (Fac33) writeup - Royal Festival Hall, London 14 May 84 I'm in the midst of going through dozens of live tapes, archiving them onto CD and noting the particulars on my site. I've mostly kept quiet and added stuff, but I'm curious if I should be a bit more noisy about this effort. Finally finished this one after a very, very long time of, well, not finishing it. At least I got it done before the 20th anniversary. Have what I think are somewhat accurate transcriptions of Face Up and I've Got A Cock Like the M1 (the prototype for The Perfect Kiss)... http://www.new-order.net/no/gigs/nogigs84.html#NO-840514.faceup http://www.new-order.net/no/gigs/nogigs84.html#NO-840514.tpk I'm interested if anybody can double-check these for accuracy, as it was rough going in spots. Also a superb rendition of Hurt and a strategically-placed belch during Blue Monday. Lots of folk shouted out for Ceremony but did not get it. Barney makes some comments either in support of or taking the piss out of the crowd (this one was supposed to be a miners' benefit), it's hard to tell with him sometimes. http://www.new-order.net/no/gigs/nogigs84.html#NO-840514 Does anybody else have MP3s of this concert that are a semitone slow (these were labelled 'unknown source')? The tape I took these from is clear, but it's at least 3rd-4th generation (same master as the aforementioned MP3s, but has Barney's opening comment prior to the first song ("Can't moan about us coming on late now," which are missing from the MP3 issue), and is a bit papery in the treble, which may or may not be a problem with the source both share. - --Sam ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 23:35:29 EST From: GaoBest@aol.com Subject: (Fac33) true faith CDVideo Q Hey kids, If I have this item, can I play it on my CDplayer or DVDplayer or imac itunes CD player? thanks! xox Mike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Mar 2004 06:10:11 -0000 From: "Nick King" Subject: RE: (Fac33) true faith CDVideo Q Hi Mike, Nope to all 3 questions - you need either a PAL CDVideo player, or a PAL LaserDisc player that will play CDVideo discs. That should be more depressing, especially since "Anymore" was a promo "sampler" pressing. You know that is harder to find than the True Faith CD-video, since there are always people willing to sell the TF CDV... At least you know to whom you "lost" that purchase. Or how about when we were there in Oct 1997 and phoned you to OFFER you tickets to Sarah's solo gig, but you had just returned from mate holiday so were too knackered to go... with Bob & Pete DJing, and all that jazz... How many different known sources are there of this gig? I have an FM version with 10 tracks (57m long) Let's Go, The Perfect Kiss, Age Of Consent, Thieves Like Us, State Of The Nation, As It Is When It Was, The Village, Subculture, Atmosphere, Blue Monday My copy has Atmosphere and Blue Monday recorded at substantially lower volume, I suspect this is a local variation... There's another version that leaves off Let's Go, and is 53m long that was also noted as being FM sourced. There's also a "mixer" version that has all twelve tracks in the following order: Let's Go, Age Of Consent, Thieves Like Us, The Perfect Kiss, State Of The Nation, Confusion, As It Is When It Was, The Village, Subculture, Atmosphere, Temptation, Blue Monday I have another version of this with the same track order, but which is off a few generations. I'm unclear if this "mixer" is really the audio soundtrack for the video that exists or if it is is own distinctive version. I'm also unclear whether any audience tapes exist of this gig. Thanks in advance to anybody who can clear these things up... - --Sam ------------------------------ End of ceremony-digest V2004 #9 ******************************* ------- + For information on subscribing/unsubscribing and the digest archives, + see the Ceremony web page: http://www.monkey.org/~laps/ceremony/ + To talk to a person, send mail to .
