From PackageThf@aol.comSun Jul 14 13:17:45 1996 Date: Wed, 3 Jul 1996 01:06:44 -0400 From: PackageThf@aol.com Subject: slow note Sorry so long between issues, but info has been a little slow as of late...the band is in an off period right now, so there's not a lot to report on. BUT: The long-out-of-print "Superchunk" LP is back in stores! Ask your local record store or order from Merge ($12) or Matador (specifics on mail order are forthcoming) (You can also order the Lounge Ax Benefit CD, featuring Superchunk's "Fader Rules" along with great tunage from Seam, Sebadoh, Tortoise, and others, for $12) Some news snippets, courtesy of the forthcoming Mac interview (which, sadly, is still unfinished. Mac never stays in one place long enough for me to finish the interview. But hopefully, it will be soon. The sneak peak is to let you know that there really IS an interview...) >sneak peeks> >Dave: How did the band get named "Chunk" and why was it changed to "Superchunk"? >Mac: Our drummer Chuck was listed in the phone book as "Chunk," so that seemed good, but there was already a percussion group in NYC called Chunk who asked that we change our name. My mom suggested the "super" part when we couldn't come up with a completely new name. >Dave: (Portastatic:) How did you wind up recording "St. Elmo's Fire" with Georgia and Ira? Mac: _Another Green World_ is a record I was listening to a lot at the time and it seemed like Brian Eno wrote some classic songs, though unlike many of his contemporaries (Cale, Reed, etc.) very few are ever covered. It seemed like a good one and Yo La Tengo happened to be in town at that time, so they were kind enough to come over and contribute their stuff. >Dave: Have you decided what the big MRG100 is going to be? >Mac: MRG100 will be a 7 or 8 song EP consisting of Mark Robinson remixes of songs by Superchunk, Spent, Lambchop, Guv'ner, and others. ...more to come... and in other news: There is a two page article/intervewt( with Jim and Laura avaliable at: http://monsterbit.com/pcp/superchunk.html {It's got some funny coments by jim and laura, it's slightly recent, and its one of the few interviews in which the Members of Superchunk seem to be actualy enjoying themselves... also on the net: There's a whole band interview at: http://www.theendnet.com/3.4.106lnt.html It's not a great interview but it does have it's moments. The topics explored are: smokey clubs, the what would you be doing if... question, quick recording times, and getting along in a band. >>> There's a Mac photo at: http://contest.catalogue.com/ncmem...chapel-hill/bands/portastatic.html This might not be the right address, so search for it with the Magellan search engine to be sure. Its a great photo though and if you go through the page you can find limited information on other Mac bands. >>> There's a great LAURA PHOTO at: http://surfers.com/tydu/Music/features/chicks/laura1x.jpg The photo establishes Laura as the single most beautiful woman on the face of the Earth. Highly recomended, but its very small. and a reminder on Superchunk in Australia in August, with Guided by Voices: Sydney (Aug. 2 - The Metro; Aug. 3 - two shows - The Metro, first show is all ages, second show is a bar show), Perth (Aug. 5&6 - The Planet), Adelaide (Aug. 7 - Tivoli), Melbourne (Aug. 9&10 - The Corner; Aug. 11 - The Corner - All ages), Canberra (Aug. 14 - AMUBAR), Newcastle (Aug. 15 - Newcastle UNI), Byron Bay (Aug. 16 - Great Northern), Brisbane (Aug. 17 - The Roxy), and a show in Auckland, New Zealand (Aug. 20 - The Powerstation).
