I must say this makes me sick the album is not here yet.. now I've got
expectations...!
I guess the Chemical Bros track will maybe be the extra track on the US
album? Maybe Jon has informations on this? The Japanese release will have
Reading 98.. this is bad.. this makes 3 copies to buy ;-) unless the
Japanese edition is released in August also...!
Now, let's hope remixes of Crytal will be good.. ie NOT LIKE THE REST OF AND
ALL SHITTY REMIXES RELEASED SINCE 1994!! bring back Pettibone! :-)
If I follow this, there is good chances "Turn my way" will be the first US
release... and this would be brillant.. Corgan will help the album sales
over here, and this might force them to tour, who know.
Well, I'll wait before dreaming out loud..!

So, anyway, I booked my flight to SF yesterday. I wasn't planning on
going to the show, after all, but the ticket was just too cheap for me to
resist... ($228 from Chicago! Very different from the $430 I was seeing
when the date was announced.)
I do not yet have a ticket for the festival, though -- but it looks like
there are plenty yet available. Before I buy one, tho, I was wondering
where everyone is sitting -- I'd like to experience the show with fellow
fanatics, if possible...
So, if anyone has an extra pavillion ticket they'd like to sell me, that'd
be great -- or maybe there's a lawn posse I could join? If not, I'll just
get my own pavillion ticket and that will be that.
Mail me off list if you're going to the SF show and want to help me
out...or meet up sometime in the days before the show.
Thanks!
Very, very geeked,

Stuart,
Please refrain from using the word 'Watford' in a New Order related e-mail. Being Luton born and bred I find such language utterly disdainful!
Anyone else have problems contacting the Olympia direct? Seems the whole building is wired to one huge answering machine. Eventually bought my tickets via the NME phoneline.

As for English language, check out your Oxford English Dictionaries,
Organise, etc, spelt with a Z. I also understand The Times, (London, not
NY), have a house style of spelling with a Z. ;-)

*Fortunately they're much changed since then. Now they brought a modern
element to their music, mixing it with big beat and other electronic stuff,
while the rock stuff is more punk than hippy, especially since Mani from The
Stone Roses became the bassist. Sometimes there could be comparisons with
stuff like the Chemical Brothers or Prodigy, but it's just to give you an
idea...

So, the well written NME song by song summary ends with this paragraph:
Verdict: Last time around, dance music had virtually taken over New Order's
sound. But, once again, the Manchester band have incorporated the sounds of
the moment and decided that rock is back. This is a surprisingly modern,
well-produced album and a defiant answer to critics who might have said that
New Order are past it.
I have got to wonder, now, that the usually hypercritical NME has bestowed
its praise upon the new LP after listening to it once or twice, What do you
naysayers have to say now???
A handful of us have been getting thrashed over the past weeks as we try to
convince the majority of you that we should at least wait until we actually
hear the album before we completely trash it. With every little tidbit of
news, folks like Eddie Colton and AjWells, and really it seems over half
this list, and the alt.music.new-order usenet newsgroup have found reason to
gloat about New Order finally losing it. I have found this very strange,
cause I thought most of us are fans of the band, but the negative attitude
more than prevailed here. And I don't even know why I am using the past
tense.
Perhaps it is that New Order fans are just innately pessimistic, or maybe
it is a pentup anger from years of less than ideal side
projects......whatever it is, it is strikingly derisive and hopeless and it
really intrigues me that you folks remain on the list, because if I were
that dismissive of a band, I would have been long gone.....you know, sell
your lps and find a new band.....
The fact that NME, who you know were dying to trash this LP, because they
love to slay the dragons, has actually penned a highly optimistic preview of
the record is a hint at how brilliant this release will be. And they only
heard it once or twice, and we all know how uniquely New Order songs tend to
grow on the listener. In the past, when I have heard a new LP by New Order,
the songs that I didn't like slowly crept up on me and opened up new sonic
vistas, and I gradually if not tolerated, usually grew to really like the
songs, and tunes on the record that I liked a lot, well they tended to
become classic hits for me........Perfect Kiss....True Faith....etc
etc......New Order don't put crap on their records, and that is why they are
revered and respected in the music world. Most bands put out one big MTV
single and the rest is pure rubbish.......but New Order are foremost
artists, and write music not for paychecks but for their own
satisfaction........that is why they don't put out an LP every year, and
took such time off when they were not happy with each other. The distance
and time reminded them of what their true calling was on this planet, and
they have returned and recorded another masterpiece....
I fully expect for the naysayers to continue to dis this LP, and everything
else about New Order, and I remain astonished that people who dislike New
Order so much find it necessary to spend so much time with the lists and
newsgroups and websites assembled for fans.....strange.......I find it very
very bizarre behavior....
I am so psyched NME put out such a glowing preview of the LP, and can't wait
for the release!!!
I should have learned by now to ignore the dour fantasies of Colton and
Wells and Cohorts, and trust my instinct, the senses that led me to New

Not to dis NewOrder (cos I'm a NewOrder obsessed fan as well and myself
can't wait to hear the new record!), but I remember listening to a Bernard
Sumner interview just recently and the interviewer asks him, what if
anything, has been an influence on his music. Bernard answered, 'the
mortgage on my house". I thought that was fucking hilarious.

I am not a negative about the album... but when did the hypercritical NME
generated a valid opinion on things recently? I am not sure that anyone that
is past the casual music-scene monitoring cares much for what the NME has
to offer... actually, it was a nice read... but it does not mean squat to me
about how the album will be.

Or praise it... or think that the NME review means anything. I think that all
speculation is, well, speculation.

Somehow, I read the same posts, and I do not get that idea... their skepticism
is high, but so be it.. that is just another way of preparing for an album.
Their opinions are just as valid as the NME (after they hear it, of course).

I reckon though that the NME has it sussed in gaining hits on their site and
selling copies in the newsagents as so many people moan about it. Any
publicity is generally good publicity for a mag. The nme is as good or as
bad as it has always been more than likely. I still have a cutting from
back in 1981 from a letter saying that 'nme had finally lost it' in giving
Bowie's Scary Monsters a high rating and Yes's Tormato a low rating!
Journalists change, people and readers get older, youth culture changes and
the nme changed its image markedly at one point when they lost several good
journos and adopted the 'lets see who we can wind up this month' stance. I
still buy it and find it useful for somethings....soaking damp out of wet
dms is one very good use for it :)
I don't think anyone with any nonce pays any attention to what any magazine
says about anything unless it is a journalist you know who shares the same
tastes as you.

People have a tendancy to cut down things anyway and as we all like to
belong to a gang we all want everyone to agree with us :) I've no problems
with a band I love losing it. Shows they're human and the perspective of
'losing it' is just personal anyway. The one thing about me and my liking
of New Order is since I bought Ceremony I have always found tracks I like
and don't like on every LP and I've been to as many shit New Order shows as
good ones. But when they are good...they ARE untouchable. Can't think of
anyone who hasn't lost it at one point anyway! You can be a fan and still
not like something can't you? I mean, I'm a total Bowie obsessive but a lot
of his 80s and 90s output has been shit (IMO) and I had to endure something
like 14 years of dirge between Scary Monsters and Outside!!
Maybe another perspective is that the gripes and moans are good as they show
the amount of devotion and affection New Order have in their fan base! If
people didn't care they wouldn't say anything. I threw a massive huff at
them when they did World in Motion. Took me about 3 years to forgive them
:)!!!!.....(still bought the bloody thing though, and the remix).
Ah well, at least this year will bring a new album, a new spiritualized
album, a new his name is alive album and maybe even Bowie's new album Toys.
I can then gripe about all of them as well:)
Hopefully I'll catch up with some Ceremoniers at some of the NO shows and we
can all put our opinions aside and have a good bounce along to Temptation :)
See you down the front!

nothing better than coming home from a long weekend, finding an inbox full
of emails with "New Order UK Show!!" in the title, expecting a cool
discussion, and finding bickering (yet again).
bravo.
anyone have snippets of the rest of the album in audio format of some sort?
i havent been paying much attention to the list recently, so i don't know if
it's been discussed.

*Well, I'm not a naysayer, but a positive NME review doesn't mena that much,
apart from the already important good publicity... in fact it could be
worrying: they often don't get it right: they coldly received Kid A, or
Ultra, when then acclaimiing the sadly disappointing Exciter, they supported
bands like Echobelly and Sleeper, they distroyed shoegazing, so those
journos haven't got all that good taste in music...

*I disagree, if they like the previous material, and there's plenty, they're
still fans. I don't like exciter, but I'm still a huge Depeche Mode fan.

For those of you who missed out Saturday, apparently the Olympia have now made more tickets available to the public as my mate's just picked some up. The Olympia themselves told him there'd only initially been 2k tickets released on Saturday, and that they've now reduced the guest list to accomodate more paying punters.
Cheers, Al.
