we are replacing the footings and adding new supports to the back of the porch! isn't that exciting! (yes) below are the first day shots, where we removed the existing supports and braced the porch while the new footings set. all at once! all four!

the new back of the porch with temporary supports (two of which are on hydraulic jacks). for comparison's sake, the old back of the porch. geez, what did i do to white balance on those old pics? oh well.

a detail of the form, concrete, and one of the exciting jacks we're using to hold up the porch

for fun, a new shot of the backyard. for comparison, an old shot of the backyard.

a new picture of the front of the house. and, after we bought it.

i don't think we ever put up a shot of this side, from the driveway. you can see the exhaust for the new furnace/hot water heater, the new roof, the new landscaping, and the piles of rubble. YAY rubble!

another backyard shot - the back of the garage. and again, right after we bought the house.

And here is the finished result. new porch supports! hoo-ray!

update the porch has not fallen down yet!

the doors! and windows!

the new french door is installed in the dining room. here is a picture of the hole cut in the wall. always nice to have a giant hole in the wall, i say, but i don't say it all that often.... here's the new door, complete with plastic, unstained, no drywall, hence the tape and plastic sheeting. and here's the dining room when we bought the house, or perhaps for a more relevant view, here's the room before we moved in but after most of the remodeling was done.

the outside of the new door, from the porch. and before installation.

the new windows are AWESOME. we can open the windows in the kitchen now! and here is a shot of us doing so! here's what it looked like at very first. a bit of explanation - the old windows were too tall for the countertop the old owners wanted to install. so, they put in the countertop, which was higher than the old window's sill, and then put in fake trim above the counter backsplash to make the inside look like a real window. except it never opened. here's a picture of that from the outside. notice the back of the countertop backsplash.... so we wanted that framed in, right? and openable windows installed. here're the new windows from the outside. yay!. both pictures show the lovely clapboard underneath the imitation shake shingles. boo for outside remodelling, i say.

i don't think i've ever put up a picture of the south side of the house flowerbed.
